JB and his quotes winning 7 tours? Well there is a MASSIVE question mark beside those tour now isn't there!

Those JB quotes were not necessarily from this year, more like from the last 10 yrs, he shouldn't have lost those/his DS attributes just in the years he loses right?

I think that JB and his winning prowess should be viewed with a great deal of skepticism given all of the recent allegations, and, that is intimately related to his character as being discussed in this thread.

NW

If you read what I wrote, it's clear I didn't argue JB's quotes from his 'winning years' should be taken as truth.

But ridiculing JB by applying those quotes out of context to a losing year is just taking a cheap shot. Not too different to offering his 'lack of congratulations for the winner' as proof of his moral decrepitude without bothering to find out what he actually said.

That there's a question mark over his 'golden years', no argument. That he may be morally decrepit, quite possible. But cheap shots like the ones in this thread are not exactly coming from a moral high ground.

If you would be so kind, could you point out the moral high ground to us ethical plebeians?

Armstrong's TT position has been extensively honed in the wind tunnel and is absolutely the most aero position ever achieved by a hunchback.:p

Looked better than AC's though. Actually, AC's position looked good, but it looked like his stem/toptube where too long. He kept having to push himself back onto his saddle. Geez, was he even riding his own bike?

Andy didn't do all the work, Andy was trying his hardest to drop Contador, which is a bit different. As outrage9 said, it probably had a lot to do with Chaingate. Under normal circumstances, what Contador should have done is attack to try to win the stage. Some gifts are alright and show class, others don't make sense.

As for Bruyneel, what do you suggest he should have done? Take pulls? Or let go from Indurain's wheel deliberately, since he couldn't cooperate nor apparently attempt to win the stage? I don't see the issue here.

I realise the chain incident may have contributed to Contador's thinking when he didn't contest the finish - and so I'm not 100% sure that Contador was being honourable or just feeling a little guilty. We'll probably never know. To me it was class and made sense.

I'm not sure that Schleck was trying to break Contador is relevant, Contador sat on Schleck's wheel and benefitted from Schleck's pacemaking.

Bruyneel? Well the odd time I've been in a break (extremely unusual let me say) and haven't been able to do a turn for whatever reason I haven't contested the sprint. So the honourable thing to do for Bruyneel would have been to let Indurain win. IMHO.

At our level, sure. Pro level, in the tour, his team would have BBQ'ed him if he didn't take the stage, and the time bonus away from Mig.

Also gift are handed down to rider below you or sometimes at your own level. Domestiques don't give gifts to stars, particularly not when they've got a golden excuse not to do any work.

Yeah true. And I'm sure Contador would have contested if there were time bonuses involved like there would have been with Bruyneel. Maybe I just don't like Bruyneel:confused:.
