Carlton kirby - has to go !!

Page 9 - Get up to date with the latest news, scores & standings from the Cycling News Community.
Theres a lot more people being subjected to his Murray Walker impersonations and lack of cycling knowledge now that the TDF is on. They may want to join force and get him off Eurosport cycling.

Need I say more ??

Could you refrain from opening threads that
A) do not even have a basic premise for discussion
B) already deal with the exact topic I assume you want to talk about and you created earlier.

Some technical fault occurred around the time of the crashes and the commentary cut out, so Kirby took over for the end.

...and i don't think he did a bad job. As the riders at the front were household names, i think that help him out a lot...but over all not bad.

Harmon is on the Tour. Harmon and Kelly do their usual job, but they add Carlton in Paris for colour commentary, especially on dull stages.

Harmon tweeted that Eurosport lost the booth at 6km out so Kirby had to cover the end on short notice, whereas normally he would be quiet at this point leaving it to Harmon and Kelly to do play-by-play.

he did a good job on the spot. better than he usually does. I enjoyed it more than usually knowing it would be annoying cycle chic

A whole month. Thats three weeks and six days longer than most people.

Thats 3 weeks, 30 days and 23 hours 45 minutes too long for me. (listening to Phil And Paul.)

Kirby was OK yesterday, seemed to pull it off somehow.

I have to vent my anger somehow - I have just watched the USA Pro Tour commentated by Brian Smith and Carlton 'idiot' Kirby. I am astounded that this guy is being allowed to commentate on Cycling. I recently asked a friend who lives in Italy to listen to him and he was dumbfounded. He told me how it would be on italian tv - the commentators are telling you what is going on in the race, what the rider will be feeling/thinking, being told by race radio, how much time is between the front and back of the peleton...etc.

Brian Smith is very good but simply cant have a conversation or get any feedback or engagement with Kirby because Kirby has no cycling knowledge/experience. Smith will be constantly giving valuable information about the race or riders and Kirby will then talk about something completely different - how the graphics are very funny. Someone said on Twitter that we are not interested in the food that Kirby has been eating in the USA and how about commentating on the race - Kirby said 'theres absolutely nothing going on out there' .

Surely with Cycling becoming more popular everyday and viewing figures increasing on Eurosport this Bafoon has to go !

Whilst im not Carltons biggest fan (prefer Backstead w Harmon) I very much doubt I could talk for between 1 and 5 hours without descending into complete nonsense from time to time.

We can critisise, but I would like to see one of us try and do the job.
I think this a problem for English speaking commentators - who have a constant tendency toward hyperbole which makes them robotically repetitive and quite clumsy/nonsensical when they run out of stream.
Then they become self-defensive and try to defend their own ego.

It could be different!
- in other languages (I can vouch for Italian)
the commentator bring so much more information and ideas to the fore.
Often there are two commentators that inform each other - rather then one parroting what the other has just said.
They are more ready to celebrate foreign riders and less disappointed when their own riders fail.

Correct

last night hightlights from P & P

the great descender Fränk Schleck

this climb starts off easy at 10-11% then gets harder at the top which it doesn´t and did not

there was more ........

2 nights ago apparently he said that Juraj was the younger and more talented Sagan.

They are horrid, and the worst thing is passive fans think they are good and believe what they say.

Then again, the same night Kirby was talking about disgusting foods he has tried.

For UK viewers i have to say that the guy doing lone commentary on ITV 4 - Matt keenan, is good. His commentary consists of identifying the rider on camera, and telling a quick story about him, or mentioning a few good results about said rider.

Happy to report that after yesterday I now know that 164 is one of Carlton's favourite numbers

I'm sure that's not all he told you ! I thought he did alright on the Tirreno race earlier in the year and others. You can't say he is not happy. I have never known a commentator that spends so much time laughing while calling a race. He certainly makes Harmon sound a like a grave digger. I don't mind Kirby but sometimes you sort of would like the batteries to run down a little. Maybe a inject a bit of Sean Kelly into him.

Anyone else amazed by Harmonns ability to know word for word what cyclists are thinking and saying, just by looking at them talk to eachother?

Today we saw 4 liquis together and Harmonn knew word for word what Nibalis argument was, exactly what Agnolis response was and he also knew that Cappechi was intervening as a mediator. All from seeing a picture of 4 teammates together.

Not the first time Harmonns shown off this skill either.

Amazing.
