You live at home with your mum? What's an average day look like:u on the sofa in ur kick *** cycling gear setting the world to rights(or cycling sports commentators,at least), whilst mumsie makes you a ham sandwich(with touch o mustard-cause u like it that way). Live the dream and keep up with that revolting attitude.

To TSF - I havent heard McCrossan commentating as he seems to be a presenter and doesnt commentate on Eurosport (I suspect because Harmon doesnt like him - as his comments during the Tour of Beijing showed)

SO if you havnt heard McCrossan commentate how can you suggest cyclevox as a replacement for Harmon and Kirby??

And Ant does commentate on Eurosport. He did the comms for both the Tour of Oman, and I think he did the Qatar highlights packages. He also does some of the british premier league stuff on Eurosport as well.

a) Neither Kirby nor Harmon have any journalistic qualifications.

Well according to his website: "As a Post Graduate Broadcast Journalist Carlton's Television career began with the BBC as a News and Sports Reporter."

So unless he's lying, he has pretty solid journalistic credentials.

Let me conclude - with Wikipedia's explanation of a commentator:-
"
Play-by-play announcers are the primary speakers, valued for their articulateness and ability to describe the events of an often fast-moving contest. Color commentators are valued for experience and insight into the game, and are often asked questions by the play-by-play announcer to give them a topic for analysis. The latter most often have gained their experience in the sport as a player and/or coach, while the former is more likely to be a professional broadcast journalist than a participant in the sport, although there are numerous exceptions to these general trends.
The most common format for a sports television broadcast is to have one of each type. An example is NBC Sunday Night Football, which is called by Cris Collinsworth, a former NFL receiver, (formerly by John Madden, a former head coach), and Al Michaels, a professional announcer. In the United Kingdom however there is a much less distinct division between play-by-play and color commentary, although two-man commentary teams usually feature an enthusiast with formal journalistic training but little or no competitive experience leading the commentary, and an expert former (or current) competitor following up with analysis or summary. There are however exceptions to this - all of the United Kingdom's major cricket and snooker commentators are former professionals in their sports, while the legendary Formula One racing commentator Murray Walker had no formal journalistic training and only limited racing experience of his own."

a) Neither Kirby nor Harmon have any journalistic qualifications.
b) They rarely ask the professional any questions - they prefer to talk themselves.

If Harmon gave the talktime to his professional co-commentator (color commentator) for half the time there would be a huge improvement.

AND - I just cannot believe that any cyclist who has the depth and knowledge of professional cycling (like Lib Seg and Team Sky Fan have) can support the idiotic commentary of Harmon and Kirby.

EVEN my mum asks what these bafoons are doing on television !!

Seriously, get a life. If you don't like him commentating mute it and commentate yourself, then record it so we can hear and see how easy it all is

I dont see a problem with calling people out, but this thread is 10 pages long mainly due to cyclechic. She has also harrassed Carlton endlessly on twitter telling him how terrible he is and how she wants him fired.

that is entirely different to calling someone out.

Which in my opinion points to part of some vendetta (pointless as it is) and has long lost its relevance in opinions on cycling commentators and the laughs (more snorts than laughter) died many pages ago.

all that is left is to pity CC and his/her pointless ramblings about eurosport while his/her Mum agrees.

Maybe he/she could commentate for his/her Mum!

Your whole argument has been that any pro rider could do a better job, simply by dint of being pro riders. Examples:

Cycle Chic said:
And yes - any national rider could do better than Kirby or Harmon come to that - they certainly have more knowledge.

Here we have Sean Kelly, ex-pro, winner of monuments, winner of a Grand Tour, and to add to that knowledge he has been in broadcasting for years! Perfect! Yet I bet you can't find a single person who thinks Kelly as main commentator is a good idea. Why not? Because riding a bike is not the same as talking about riding a bike.

If Harmon didn't ask questions I suspect Kelly would happily sit in silence listening to race radio.

Good of you to include a quote from Wiki that totally argues against your point. Murray Walker, arguably greatest F1 commentator ever, and no driving experience. How can that be?

As for color commentators, yeah we know. It's what we've all been saying for the past 20 pages. Color commentators commentate alongside a broadcasting pro, just like Kelly, Smith, and Backstedt do.

All we need now is cycle chics mum to come on here and threaten to kick the crap out of us for mobbing her precious little brat/child.

Funny thread though. But I'm out of here before it turns nasty.

Kirby on Eurosport

Oh my Lord - Carlton Kirby has once again launched into his Grand National commentary on Eneco. How Dan Lloyd suffers this idiot i do not know.

He told us Taylor Phinney would time trial his way in the bunch with 2 kms to go. And described the orange and blue kit, white kit and pink and blue kits of each of those teams.

I,m sure i,ll be berated by Lib Seguros and Benotti who love the guy !

Dan Lloyd must have the patience of a saint

Wednesday:
CK "Kittel has punctured and it's outside 3km so that's a disaster for his hopes in this race"
DL "Well I don't think he's bothered about the GC but ..."

Friday:
CK "Bos has crashed and it's outside 3km so that's a disaster for his hopes in this race"
DL "Well I don't think he's bothered about the GC but ..."

Unfortunately kriby is only doing 2 days and will be replaced on Monday by harmonn who on has to wonder just how based he will be considering he is spending the weekend with wiggins.
I hope.he will be normal but i fear it will be like.liggett after lance started winning.

Hurrah - come back Harmon all is forgiven - even kissin wiggins doped up a** is better than Kirby. :)

Harmon will be unbearable speaking the entire time about his "close encounter with Wiggo"......

Harmon is hypocrite. Can't bring himself to even speak about Vino most of the time but has no problem with other convicted dopers such as Millar, presumably because he was more contrite after getting caught... I would not be surprised if he is less than complementary about Froome following his love in with Wiggins. I prefer Kirby, he seems a bit more detached/well rounded.

I don't understand the hate on Kirby. I'm not that big of expert but in my opinion Kirby is pretty alrighty. Certanly doesn't annoy me while watching unlike Harmon at times with his Wiggins love..
