To be fair to Kirby for a second, going over the Patterberg I remembered Harmonn from last year - "the only way to beat Sagan is to kill him, take a knife and stab him", which was pretty dumb.

But hey, at least Harmonn knew something about cycling.

"The only way to get rid of Peter Sagan is LITERALLY to kill him!" D:

and i wish he was back

Just for those who follow women's cycling, I'm being told Carlton was trying to call the women's race across the line with the coverage still showing the men, and instructed us all that the Swedish champion Emilia Fahlin leads the World Cup and was in the chasing group. As you probably guessed, Fahlin was not doing any of these things at any point. Johansson was.

To be fair in the right context, I'd be happy to shout her name all day long.

I've said it before and I'll say it again.

You haven't experienced idiot commentary until you've heard Tomolaris and the Tan Man. Liggett, Kirby, Harmon, Roll - all of them pale in comparison to these two clowns. These guys struggle with getting the names right at podium ceremonies

Thankfully they don't do any race commentary.

It's a testament to Kirby's track record that my first reaction yesterday when he said 'oh, and Ben Swift is still in the group!' was 'pfft, what an idiot! He thinks just because Nieve is on Sky, he's the British guy'. With a patchy stream not allowing me to distinguish anything about rider features, I was 99% sure it wasn't Swift until the sprint happened.

Also when he saw Spilak come accross the line, he said Spilak is an itt specialist.

News to me.

He's hardly hopeless at them either, with last season being a big improvement on 2012.

In 2013: 2nd in prologue at Andalucia, 6th Paris-Nice ITT, 5th Pais-Vasco ITT, 5th Romandie ITT, 8th Tour de Suisse ITT, 8th Charentes ITT

And then his 4th today.

Kirby and his offsider were not paying any attention at during the most important part of the TT. They were stilling calling Kwiatowski as a possible overall winner within the last km when it was obvious based on Contador's onscreen time there was no way Contador was going to lose. Just call the damn race instead of going on about what might happen in the future. Pathetic commentary capping off an entertaining race.

He probably means this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Separated_shoulder but to be fair he's there to commentate on a cycle race and not diagnose cycling injuries.

Although, saying that, I'm surprised he's got it wrong, but it's Carlton so forgiven :):):)

Cruciate ligament damage is fairly common in sports like football (Gazza 'for goodness sake!') and you'd expect a professional commentator of any sport to know it's not in the shoulder / chest area.

As much as I enjoy Carlton's commentary, you do have a point....
