Carmichael and Leadville 100

I snagged this from the MTB forum. If you don't make the lottery to get into Leadville, you can pay Carmichael $1250 to get in. I wonder if the two day camp comes with complimentry extract of cortisone injections. Talk about partnering with a scumbag.

"There is still ONE way you can gain entry into the race. For the third
year, the Leadville Trail100 has partnered with Carmichael Training
Systems to host three 2-day mountain bike camps in Leadville in July
2010 in preparation for the LT100 MTB Race. Camp participants will
earn guaranteed entry into the race and the race entry fee is included
in the camp fee. Athletes who are unsuccessful in the lottery will
have first priority to get into a CTS LT100 Camp. Call CTS today at
866-355-0645 or visit http://www.trainright.com to reserve a camp spot and
we’ll see you at the start line on August14."

But the camp includes 1 lunch, 1 dinner

What a scam, not even a hotel room

It's not just a crock. It's a crook. Carmichael should be in prison along with his fellow coaches of the U.S. national team. Injecting minors with drugs while lying to them about what was in the syringes is lower than a limbo stick in Jamaica at carnival time.

They are pros they will race anywhere they are paid to, who cares. What is going on here is Lance is using his huge profile to sell places in loyal minion Carmicheal's "training camp", which really amounts to blackmailing people who want to get into the race. Sweet deal for Lance, he repays The Kid and it doesn't cost him a penny out of pocket.

Golly, Hugh. I do not really share your opinion. If it makes someone happy to train with Charmicheal and ride the legendary leadville 100 let them have their joy. Its not serious like the fake crashing of planes during911!

Let the boys and girls get a charge out of it. I would rather they sent the money to me to pay for my kids education but I don't always get what I want.

No sorry, bullshit on this one. If the "boys and girls" want to learn how to charge from The Kid, that is fine. I have no problem with that, go at it. But what they are doing is blackmailing people who want to do the race into paying an extra grand or so to be let in. It is money grubbing at the best, and takes advantage of long time cycling fans who want to do the race. If they have no more room for racers to safely race then fine, but they have the room, they just want to enrich one or two more of their friends in the process.
I know a few guys who tried to get in and missed out, they are cat. 1 racers, they do not need a 2 day clinic with Chris Comical, if there is room in the field it should go to them not to tourists with deep pockets.

Hey Hugh,

Blackmailing is not cool. Cat 1/2 riders banned and then charged 1275$ by a snake oil salesman?

If the people who sponsor the event allow that rip-off I would say screw em. Not worth the time, training and fuel to get to leadville.

You know what commitment and talent it takes to ride cat 1/2 bike racer.

There should be no entry fee nor a limit for those riders, they up the prestige of the event. Plus they should be lodged fed and maybe a small stipend paid to them. No respect by the organizers.

Reminds me of white shamans.

Flicker that is the point i was trying to make.

Go check out the Carmichael Leadville training camp. Its 1250 for two days. Sorry i know how to ride and train for a mountain bike race. I have been racing for over 15 years and I used to race with Cat1/2 races. Even would race against Franke Andrue when he was in town. (he normally just sat in and lets us fight for the inw)

The point i am making is that its wrong for Carmichael to have a strangle hold on all of those spots. Especially when he is charging 1250 for the camp, so if i really want to race leadville its going to cost me 1250 in registration.....sorry i am gonig to ride something less visible and probably more fun.

The Carmichael business is proof that cycling has become the "new golf". CTS seems to be very popular with Type-A soccor moms around these parts.
I have a freind who has raced Leadville a few times. From the sounds of it, it's not the best race anyway (He also did the Vapor Trail and said that way way better).

I second the sentiment that there are probably lesser-known but more fun 100-mile MTB races in the region than Leadville. Too much hype, too much Hollywood.

I talked with the 15 "Pros" who race Leadville. They asked if they could sleep on my couch and asked if I wanted to buy some old team wheels and an expired box of Cliff bars for 50% off.

The rest of the field is made up of fat old guys who all say Charmichael is a douche.

Hey fella, watch it with the "Chris Comical" reference. You need to admit right now that you didn't create that moniker and provide the correct reference to the true author or Chris E. will be all over you like ugly on an ape.

I think it's pretty sad that the race promotors would allow Comical to profiteer off of their race, on the other hand if anyone is *** enough to pay Comical $1,250 to get into Leadville then I say F 'em.

Again with the "Comical"! You guys are gonna be in so much trouble...

Is it fraud and blackmail for guide and tour services to get select permits for L'etape each year that are not available to the general public?

+1. It would be interesting to hear from someone that will actually pay to do this camp. Really interesting.
