Cavendish to Sky Confirmed?

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/ot...dish-shock-join-Bradley-Wiggins-Team-Sky.html

Mark Cavendish, the cyclist in pole position to win Britain’s first gold medal of the London 2012 Olympics, will sign for Team Sky next season in a deal worth £1.5million a year.

Sportsmail understands the winner of 15 stages of the Tour de France has agreed to leave his current team, HTC-Highroad, to join Bradley Wiggins in the Dave Brailsford-managed British squad for 2012.

Cavendish is set to double his current salary, putting him on a par with Wiggins, who on Sunday claimed his biggest road victory in the week-long Critérium du Dauphiné.

Team Sky refused to comment on the capture of Cavendish, insisting they would be saying nothing about new signings, or potential signings, until August 1, when permitted to do so under the rules of the International Cycling Union’s World Tour.

I don't think Dimspace (aka TeamSkyFans) will be overly pleased. I am not sure it is Sky's smartest move. If this proves to be correct then what will happen with the Gilbert deal?

I think the scary part is that Cavendish's salary when doubled at Sky will equal Wiggins'! Say what?

Wow.
OK, that was to be expected, and it's great for British cycling fans (some). But this is going to create a huge media distraction for much of the season, especially during Le Tour, I suspect. Too bad for this info to come out now, IMO.

Intriguing plot developing though.

This is written in the Daily Mail and therefore most likely 80% b0ll0cks and 20% rumour.

CAV SIGNS FOR SKY

IMMIGRANTS CAUSE CANCER!

READ ALL ABOUT IT!

Really hope it's not true though. I enjoy backing the Sky riders but if they become the Cav machine it's over. It will basically bring in attention from those who watch the tour and alienate real cycling fans but they must have reasoned quantity is better than quality.

That's what I took away from the article as well. Indeed.

I am certain it's a smart for Sky, Cavandish is worth his weight in gold for them. I'm not sure it's smart for Cavendish, but whatever. Maybe it increases his chances of winning the Olympics a little bit.

Publicity wise it's good for Sky, but I hope he doesn't go there, especially if they adopt the HTC policy of making everybody do lead-out.

According to De Telegraaf, Boasson Hagen, Sutton, Swift and Henderson will do his lead work.

Susan

Did De Telegraaf really need to tell us that? Surely people could work that out for themselves.
Anyway, Sutton will go to GreenEdge next year.

Boasson Hagen is way too good of a rider to do leadouts for Chavendish.

So is Ben Swift IMO.

IIRC, and isso backed me up on this, that when Cav renewed until 2011, HTC had the option to automatically extend it until 2012 should the management decided to do so. So I guess either the rumours about HTC's demise is correct, or Cav has been offered money he can't say no to (and HTC couldn't match).

Wouldn't be so sure. I think he is happy working with Uncle Shane.

Any word in whether renshaw will go with him? I'm would of thought cav would of been pretty keen to take him if at all possible. Or does renshaw see this as his chance to become s leading sprinter in his own right?

TBH I would be cautious about signing with Greenedge, after what happened with Pegasus.

Yeah, I think that will put many off, unless it is a last resort. Shame.

I hope he does better to be the best lead out guy that the 20th ranked sprinter
