So a week to go, I think the key for Froome to have a chance of retwining his jersey is if he is over his crash in the Dauphine. How long woul it take to get ove a crash like that, and could it affect his Tour? I suppose we will have to wait to hear from him this week when he inevitably gets bombarded with interviews.

Also this year you really have to get off to a good start, stages 2 and 5 could be very crucial and if he isn't 100% he could lose time to his rivals.

Depends entirely on how serious his injuries were. I expect he'll be at perfect health by Tour start. If he was able to ride the rest of the Dauphine after the crash then it shouldn't be a serious enough crash to affect his Tour.

Stage 5 will be fun. Two GC flyweights battling for the front on the pave. Something will happen there.

Nervous first week, huge peloton still.... Popcorn at the ready.

I think Contador is in bigger danger of losing time there than Froome, because Froome will have the support of G. Thomas and Eisel.

I agree. We saw the benefits of having good cobbled team mates last time when Cancellara helped Andy. I think having Thomas and Eisel's cobbled experience will be extremely important on stage 5.

I know it is a Froome thread. Just wanted to put a point for EBH. If I'm his agent. First call I make is to Tinkoff. Oleg/Riis "2 year deal, upper level dom money, big bonuses for wins"" All he does is classics. With full support."

I offer the same deal to GVA. Maybe can sign both. And still ad really nice classics support riders. All this done with less then Sagan money.

Less money yes but also less wins.

I agree. But if i have 2 major riders to sit on his wheel. I have doubled my winning chance. Just cannot see a team with Berto big $ and Sagan $.

But you have a point. Sagan is a huge talent going forward! GVA can ride for my team anyway though.

Mikkel Condé v2.0‏@mrconde·22 mins 
Contador tells AS that Froome's acceleration on Béal in Dauphiné was the strongest he has ever seen. "Much stronger than on Mont Ventoux".

Interesting, Contador has countered attacks by guys like Rasmussen and Riccó earlier but Froomes attacks are apparently even stronger...

Froome might lose time just because of himself. If he can't handle the cobbles no teammate can help him.

Could this be the place where he throws the predicted tantrum and leaves the Tour? Place your bets.

A prediction is usually based on past behavior. When has Froome ever left a race in a tantrum in the past?

..OR he's behind the rest of the teammates with only two guarding him;)

BTW- I'm curious to know if he was looking at the cobbles or at his power meter .....:D

Well the fact he's ahead of his teammates in the shot means they aren't really guarding him. He just needs to stay on G's wheel, head down and pedal hard on those cobbles and we all know he can pedal hard! I have a feeling he will be ok.

2012 prize money

Just curious, and I have searched fruitlessly for an answer so I hope someone may have a reference for this.

What is the traditional etiquette for a rider who reaches the second step in the Tour with regards to prize money?

Is all prize money from the podium shared between the team, as the team worked hard to get the rider there just as they would have for the top step on the podium?

Is there etiquette for when a team takes first and second prizes in the Tour?

What happened with Froome's €200,000 prize winnings for taking second place in the Tour in 2012?

We know Wiggins withheld Froome's share of the €450,000 victor's purse; did Froome equally split the €200,000 with the team also? If not, why not? If not, would it not make sense for Wiggins to have split the €450,000 with the other team members only, as Froome had arguably earned more for second place. Why would the second place prize not be split between the team?

Any references would be great.
