Well if you are that much stronger than your rivals on the TT and with the route that much in his favour last year it made perfect sense to try and win the Tour by week 2 which he did, he did nothing wrong. Certainly not tactically dumb.
To answer your original question if there has ever been a more tactically inept GT winner my answer is I don't know as I haven't watched every single one, have you? Unless your over 100 years old I doubt you've watched every one. :p it's just more anti Froome trolling.

There are enough examples to put him in the conversation. It's not really trolling if you have a foundation for your argument. It used to be said that Contador had minimal tactical ability prior to his win over Armstrong in 2009. I think someone said that when one is that talented they're the hammer and their overmatched rivals are the nails. A strong team in support only enhances that theory. Sorry for my thought being all.over the place but I'm operating under the influence of prescription drugs. :p

Don't worry, im regretting the several beers I had last night with friends after work. social media and forums need to be off limits when drunk! I can end up making a right idiot out of myself :D

Froome hits the deck after 4k, nice...

Hope he's ok, but that's not a good sign is it...honestly I can't see anyone feeling sorry for Team Cound after the vetoing of Wiggins. Oh but that's true they have Richier "Plan B" Porte handy, great.

Just seen the news, anyone saw the crash ? How does Froome look like, going to be ok or not ?

Just like at Dauphine, he can be in race but not for the win. Tomorrow cobbles, wind and rain for Froomey

Awesome work by Sky team , not a single rider in front of Froome

They got what they deserved, this is not how you protect your most valuable asset.

I'm with you in this one,the injuries are similar, tomorrow could be game over for him.

i fear for him to be honest. one of the things there aren't just a myth is that he definitely improved his biking skillz, but he still lacks in this part. the best for him tomorrow is to not try to stay at the front but drop with the whole sky team and chase from behind. i just can't see him over the wet cobbles and not having serious problems

and i hope he's okay. le tour without him would be boring

Sky reporting that Chris Froome is to be sent for an X-Ray on his wrist.Scott O'Raw

Not good ...

Contador crashed last year on stage 2 and in 2011. No crying just raced.

Lets home the Dawg can come back and make a game of this race. Otherwise David Walsh will get bored and have to write about non-english speaking riders.

Froome continues to be the bookmaker's favourite, but today's crash cost him about 5% win probability and the announcement that he needs xrays another 10%. He now stands at about 40% to win the Tour de France. Contador not far behind (about 38%). In other words, today's crash was great for those of us who want as even a contest as possible.

If he doesn't lose time tomorrow, I expect him to get 50+% again.

Providing his wrist isn't broken (Don't think it is *touches wood*) the cobbles will be a major test of his mental fortitude.

If he keeps up with the other GC contenders tommorow that'll be as good as a stage win mentally tbh.

his wrist is fine, there is no way you ride out of the saddle with a broken wrist. bruised and sore yes but his losses (if he has any) won't be so dramatic tomorrow that he can't regain them if he is strong enough to distance the rest come the mountains and TT. He'll just have to make sure to back up his performances and not fade in the third week - which should be a given for a grand tour winner anyway...

If he drops the ball tomorrow its surely mental weakness and i don't think he's mentally weak.
