Porte says:

Given his fall yesterday, it was always going to be hard for Froomey to hang in there, so the decision was made on the bus that I’d have G and Bernie (Eisel) to ride for me, and they did an incredible job on the wet and slippery roads... Now I have an opportunity to go for as high a GC position as I can.

Porte says:

Thomas continues to really impress me now he's learned to stay on his bike, it seems Porte crashed which was the reason he was back in the Contador group when he seemed to be up the front as the split happened.

No doubt Froome's wrist was bad before the stage for Sky to commit their best 2 cobbled riders to Porte.

Brailsford speaks regarding Froome:

I’m sure we will see him in the Vuelta

Best thing for Sky would be to ditch Wiggins completely to stop the constant ''noise'' from his fanboys.
Sorry JR, liking Chris after that disgusting biography puts a huge fanboy stamp on your forehead. I seriously can't believe people still like him after that rag.

The book was made for one purpose and one only, to make money.

People can support whoever they wish to really whether it be Contador, Froome, Nibali, Wiggins ect. That's the joy of freedom of speech, you can be a fanboy of whoever you wish! :D

I'm mildly delighted Froome is gone.... I hope he has a swift recovery but good riddance for the time being.

I know this is a long way way off but should Froome turn up in great shape and win the Vuelta I wonder how tempted he would be to turn his attention to the Giro to complete the set.

He's obviously on record as wanting to be a multiple Tour winner but I'd like to see him broaden his horizons a bit. His weakness in crap weather might be an issue in the Giro. Nice tan-time though in Spain.

Porte:

“I’m glad to have got that stage done – the racing was on all day and it was such a stressful stage. Given his fall yesterday, it was always going to be hard for Froomey to hang in there, so the decision was made on the bus that I’d have G and Bernie (Eisel) to ride for me, and they did an incredible job on the wet and slippery roads.

That Porte comment basically tells me they have written off Frome before the start. Porte getting the two best cobble domestiques says it all. Cynical by Brailsford indeed. But that is one of his trademarks I reckon.

I gonna tell you guys one thing. I am not a big Froome fan at all, and I wanted him to lose (and Nibs or Contador to win - and I feel confident Contador would have beaten Froome regardless of crashes). But it saddens me to see Froome go down like this.

I wasnt a fan of Contador before he had that epic meltdown in Paris Nice many years back where he totally crumbled. When big stars lose out that for some awkward reason make me respect or like them more. So after today and yesterday and DL I dont dislike Froome as much as before to be honest.

In my opinion I think says more for the condition of Froome's wrist after yesterday. I found the doctors interview last night very interesting when she couldn't confirm or deny what was wrong with it.

I don't like or particularly dislike Froome but there's definitely a good argument for Sky not to extend Wiggins' contract. He's obviously struggled for motivation since 2012 (understandable) and isn't earning his salary on the road. Time to move on. What is he realistically going to achieve in road racing going forward?

Indeed it does. But given that they didnt even give him one of the cobbles specialist for support does say that they had given up on him more or less. It was also quite evident after his first crash as it took a long while before anyone came down to help him

Yup, although I'm sure Froome would have had a pretty big role in that decision. Only he knows how much pain he was in and it was good of him to let the team dedicate their resources to the healthy rider.

Franklin said:
No problem with that, but JR seems to have a real issue with people who think Wiggins deserves more respect than he's getting now from Sky;)

Why does Wiggins deserve more respect? He's quite openly stated he doesn't have the motivation or desire to even attempt to win another Tour and he'd have been a terrible domestique for Froome (someone he can't stand).

He's in a similar position to the Schlecks. Time to move on and focus on other riders.

Looking at some videos where his wrist appeared so heavily braced, it was clear he was done-perhaps he insisted on remaining in the race while hoping to recover a bit after the stage was done- but sadly an injury of that caliber cannon be healed while racing.

Yeah although he does have over 6 weeks so hopefully that will be enough time.

He'll be fine in two weeks
