Part of me was hoping the guy could put in a performance that I could respect today. Not even close. Shame, the Tour will be less interesting for it. Didn't even make it to the cobbles and retires with no apparent race ending injury. He was just done. :|

I think his wrist might be broken.

I thought they took x-rays yesterday and found nothing, and he started today. Maybe he broke it today but when he retired he wasn't holding any part of his body. He was just shaken, and lost too much time. Understandable, but hey, the other GT guys at least have been riding on the front from the beginning.

I guess all I'm saying is that he had a chance today to do an epic ride and finish in the group. Longshot but if he'd have done it, but I'd have gained a modicum of respect for him if he did.

In the interview with the French doc she couldn't say for certain that he didn't have a fracture.

Gutted for Froome. He was holding his wrist very tenderly after the 2nd fall today. Such a shame as I wanted to see a great Froome/Contador battle with others included too.

Staying positive the Tours loss could be Vuelta's gain.

Well Andy Schleck ended his race with no apparent injury, I don't think there any doubt now the news has come out and it was a really nasty one. Let's wait and see for news before writing misinformed posts.

:( Froome will be too strong for anyone else at the Vuelta, will make it a very dull race. Cant imagine Pete Kennaugh is too thrilled at the news, he must have thought a free ride at the Vuelta was in the offing.

Froome just showed to the world how "fragile" he is mentally- He just couldn't cope with the crashes, without even riding on the cobbles-- I mean, That's a sign of weakness that was hidden beneath the Team's PR Umbrella- and BTW - SKY confirming they simply cannot deal with weather adversity at all. Every time the climate goes bad, they get ill or crash or abandon- all together.

Depends about how injured he is. And Nairo Quintana will be there.

I think it is way too easy to bash Froome without knowing the full diagnosis. It makes sense that the falls today were a symptom of his inability to hold the handlebars with enough force. Then again, he may have just lacked the mental fortitude to continue. YMMV

Weather in Romandie was perfect for Froome wasn't it?:D:eek:

Like I said let's wait and see for news on injuries, I suspect a broken wrist.

... but you reckon QUINTANA is riding it, correct? and there aren't many TT kilometers at all, yes? ;)

anybody could see he was in a really bad way after that final crash , cannot imagine many riders would of still completed going through the same as what CF has been through in last 24 hours so all the negative comments are ridiculous and uncalled for !!

Dont understand the Froome bashing on this, he was clearly injured. Open season on Sky though, they totally brought it on themselves.

If Froome tried to even carry on he wouldn't have got nowhere near close enough at getting back on. He would have lost a packet and his Tour prospects were well and truly and over. No way could you go on to the cobbles with your wrist in pain like that. Better to pull out for the greater benefit of the future and a possible tilt at the Vuelta if he can recover in time.

I was listening to Orla Chennaoui on Sky Sports and she said when she interviewed him just before the Tour he didn't come across as confident as last year and showed a lot of anxiety talking about his prospects of winning it again.

Crashing twice *before* pave - nice of him to get out quick so as not to slow his team on the cobbles!

Hmm so does this mean we're going to get the whole Wiggins/Froome saga replayed at the Vuelta?

I doubt Wiggins would ride the Vuelta, he will probably prefer all the support he gets from winning the Tour of Britain again.
