Does anyone think 2nd is any good? As fans we always seem want 1st but surely 2nd in a GT is good. Since 2011 he has been on a GT podium 4 times(1 win). I also think it would look so much better if Sky just let Froome go for the TDF win it really sucks knowing Froome chucked a certain Vuelta win away and a probable TDF win.

I always use to say Wiggins would have won anyway because not enough climbs too get the time back, but Froome would have absoloute killed him uphill im sure of it. He was so strong that he could drive climbs and still beat Wiggo. He babysat Wiggo that tour, Froome should have 2/3 GT wins so far such a shame.

I'm not sure, because Wiggins for example who really is the big example of maintaining a constant high wattage and nothing else didn't have any problems looking forward.
I'm sure Froome keeps an eye on his wattage, but so do plenty of riders nowadays. Froome keeps a constant pace and then accelerates for a while, back to his tempo and another acceleration. He does this all while sitting down so it's sometimes hard to see if he's accelerating.

He earned my respect this Vuelta though. It's also because of the blind hate he gets here.

He does need to learn a different tactic though. Trying to attack from far out for example. He can sustain efforts for so long so why not?

For sure he went up a few notches in my estimation this year. For someone so elite his riding style and tactics (or lack thereof) baffle me. I'm not sure if I could wrap my brain around him not being at sky, but maybe that's what he needs. Also, Contie is pretty awesome.

Im not a Wiggins fan at all. He always seems angry or arrogant and his 2012 Tour win was a gift from Froome. Froome should have 2 Tours to his name, I bet this will bother him long after he retires. Great Vuelta by Froome, he was entertaining and impressive. With Long TT's in the Tour, Froome will be a tough man to beat in the Tour, even with a well prepared Contador. He can take time in the TT's and ride defensively and follow attacks. Even still he is the #1 or #2 climber in the world on any given day with Contador. Quintana is in that mix as well.

I watched the whole TT again last night and looked closely on the times at certain points. It's true that Froome went out too fast. He was 1 second ahead of Contador at 9:50 min.

I'm sure he meant to fast for his condition at the time. He wasn't going to beat Contador in that ITT even if he had paced himself better. Howver he might have lost less, not that it mattered in the long run he just wasn't strong enough.

Still I like him much better than I did before this Vuelta because he showed so much heart and willingness to make it a race until the final climb.

I never really had a problem with the way he raced. Ok, his style might be the ugliest in the peloton and I'm not a huge fan of the Skybot train but he's actually an exciting rider to watch. I just started disliking him when he and his gf started opening their mouths and spouting all that bs.

As a bridge to 2015 season yes. He showed a very high level, killing any doubt about a decline like Wiggins showed.

About Vuelta 2011 and Tour 2012 I agree, two easy wins IMO, but it's wasn't an easy choice, betraying Wiggo meant betray SKY. He is now the leader of an excellent team.

Well, he finished the Vuelta in as good form as anyone so here's hoping. No reason why he shouldn't.

True. There is something to be tried here for him : ride with little to no pressure, tag along for 230ks and see what happens next. if it is a selective race, a little group goes out, who knows what can happen.

Contador decided to do the Giro. All Froome needs to do is not crash and the 2015 Tour is his, let me be the first to congratulate the 2-time Tour winner in this thread.

Lets see if Froome shows some balls and goes to Il Giro too :D

No doubt Froome will be focused for the Tour, he was gutted to have to abandon this year as he really wants to be a multiple Tour winner. In my opinion I hope he does target Giro/Vuelta one season, possibly 2016.

At least if Contador and Nibali are tired after a tough Giro we should still have a good battle between Froome and Quintana, plus now we should have a great Giro with Nibali forced to fight hard against Contador.

Nah... No need for "showing balls".
He's already chased Nibali and Contador away to the Giro.

He was just riding himself into his "top" form at the end of the Vuelta. If he is able to sustain that form till the Worlds, then I think that he has a much better shot at finishing this year. It's not like he is coming off a peak of form....he is just hitting it.

Maybe Froome should have "chased" a bit harder, when he was getting dropped by Contador at the Vuelta.;) Contador crossed Froome off of his list and now he's going after Nibali on his home turf.:D
