It would be great and very uncharacteristic if the Tour was a close contest between those throughout the 3 weeks. I mean, the usual scenario seems to be one dominant rider or at most two.

A real Truel at the tour would be a sight to behold. When was the last time 3 riders were about equally likely to win the Tour in the 3rd week? Has it ever happened?

A real, multi-contender GC battle all the way to the end was what made the Giro so good this year.

Let's put this here where it belongs as its a post regarding Froome and not in the Contador thread:

I dont know why you think that CF will improve his form, he will be at the same level at TDF.

that's emphatic

Froome's form improves a lot from Dauphine to Tour - as illustrated. Only the blind and the deluded think he stays the same.

froome is great but me too i believe that his level from dauphine is not very far from that one in le tour. contador doesn't work like that.
I'd say its more like the opposite, but who knows.

numbers don't lie.

Which numbers? Can you show some?

Post suspension we've got only the Dauphine - Tour 2013 reference. And you know to whose favour it goes.

Offt some of the comments on that page from 2015

Froome will definitely have the watts needed to win, but I actually think he is the least likely of the four to take the yellow in Paris.

Yeah, because he and his team will probaby eliminate themselves out of contention.

Froome not going to drop Contador at Tour.

Contador must be super confident. He's just spanked the entire Astana Team whilst doing a 3 week training ride.

Polish cycling comentator and ex-cyclist Dariusz Baranowski said that he tested oval chainring with the same architecture that Froome uses (O-symetric) and he said that there is big difference for him in favour of oval chainring. I don't really understand why other riders don't want to use it.

As fans we can all make predictions, they rarely come true but that's why we love sport. The unpredictability, the drama and the theatre. Froome fans will obviously back thier man to win in July, as will fans of other riders with thier guy.

Checking some past editions Dauphine results. The bad news for Froome's opponents is that he really races Dauphine sandbagging/under-peaked compared to almost all his rivals and all the gaps of the Dauphine seem to amplify into his favor come le Tour.
In 2013:
-He was losing 52 seconds to Tony Martin in a 32 km flat ITT. In 33km flat ITT of the Tour he lost only 12.
-He distanced Alberto by only 4 seconds in the first mountain stage in Valmorel. Come the Tour he gave him 1:45.
He gave 10sec to Valverde. 1:08 in the Tour.
He gave 32 sec to Ten Dam. 1:16 in the Tour

In 2015:
He got beaten by Tj in the first hill finish but I'll use the stage into le Bettex as reference (Propper MTF and more suitable for comparison to PSM)
-17 seconds to Tejay. 2:30 in PSM
-41 to Meintjes. 5:38 in the Tour
-54 to Rodrigues. 6:07 in the Tour.
-2:03 to Valverde. 2:01 in the Tour (And we all know Valverde was pretty bad in that Dauphine. Finishing with Nibali in most of the stages).

Seriously, comparing Valmorel to Ax3 Domaines?

Lets just pick 1000 pieces of data and only pick the one that suit me

They are the most suitable medium of comparison. (They were the first MTF of both respective races and in Risoul Contador pulled for his team mate).
But you are free to pick the data that suit you. I'll give you that ;)
Your comments don't disprove the evidence in numbers that I gave. Neither do they prove that they are not good. They just say that the comparisons are not Ideal. And I'll give you that ;)

What about 2007? Cuddles and Leipie both came awfully close in that final TT.

Even though I wanted Cadel to win, that TT was one of the best I have seen in a GT. A few more kms and Leipheimer would have won the overall ! 2003 was also good.

Not the last time Levi probably would have won a GT if he had been allowed to ride for himself instead of Contador (2008 Vuelta).

And going into the third week of the extremely entertaining 2009 tour, a handful of GC contenders were pretty much only separated by seconds.

I wonder how that was allowed to happen? LS might have a word or two to say about that :p
