And what is a pure climber? A rider who can climb and who can't TT? If that's the case then Froome is not a pure climber, and Contador also. But if you ask me Alberto Contador Velasco is the purest climber of them all in the last 20 years!
Pantani says hi!
I think that was meant to be excluding Marco..

I don't agree tho, riders like Rasmussen and Sella were definitely more 'pure' than Alberto. They couldn't do anything else if it depended on their life. Not that they were better tho.

Nairo is not a bad time trialer, more of an average one. Terrible tt specialist doesn't stomp 20 or 30ish spots in long distance time trials, doing them far worse.
I'm sorry, but the phrase 'terrible tt specialist' really cracked me up.

There's also Fränk Schleck, Igor Antón, Ezequiel Mosquera, José María Jiménez, Iban Mayo, Juan Mauricio Soler, Riccardo Riccò, Domenico Pozzovivo, Mikel Nieve, David Moncoutié, Félix Cardenas and Julio Alberto Pérez Cuapio and Fernando Escartín in the timeframe given.

And Mara Abbott.

Also, pure climber is an interesting thing, because some riders' elegant techniques suggest they were built primarily for that type of riding - Contador is one of those, as are Mayo, Moncoutié and to an extent Jiménez. Others are great climbers, but have techniques that are no better than Froome's "nodding dog on top of an eggbeater" method, such as Escartín and Soler.

Are you still obfuscated by this kind of photo? It's not only a photo, but part of an interview too and it's part of a serie. https://twitter.com/timessport/status/908989050018820097

Or how about well done chris froome for having the confidence to do a photo shot like that?

To say gross really is uncalled for, you don't have to admire his body but to call it gross is really low
Lol what? I just think it's gross, bodies with no body fat and veins and muscles popping out everywhere aren't attractive. It's accepted to call body builders gross but not this? When you're going to pose for such pictures you can expect a response, and no you cannot expect that response to be 100% positive.

And what? "Well done"? I say well done when someone does something difficult for the greater good, to make the world a better place, or something that requires great skill. Should I say well done to porn actors because it requires great confidence to do what they do? Such rubbish.
This doesn't take confidence at all, I would pose naked with my private parts hidden from the camera for a lot of $$$ and I wouldn't consider myself very confident

I wish I hadn't seen that picture, now I can't unsee.

It's almost like you forgot your entire previous post.

Fat shaming - wrong.
Calling Froome's body "gross" - fine.
Neither of the extremes is very attractive.

PS - that person Mrs Froome insulted did not publicly show off her body to invite judgement, something Froome did. And of course, there's the fact that Froome chose to look like this, whereas she didn't choose to look the way she does.

These situations are not at all comparable. First of all, we're anonymous people in pretty much our own cave on here. This quote is unlikely to be seen by the people in question (and if it would I'm sure we'd hear of it). The Cound is a somewhat public figure, the wife of a public figure with over a million twitter followers, posting on a medium that's used by tens of millions of people every day.

Secondly, this is a cycling forum, and when you open a thread you don't expect or want to see a naked man on his bike.

So body shaming is fine as long as it's anonymous. What nonsense. If you're going to complain about body shaming, DO NOT BODY SHAME. Hypocrisy hidden by anonymity is the worst.

By what verifiable measures is this body shaming?
How is it not confounded by the whole setting and context?

I'm pretty sure Froome has something better to do than browse his CNF thread. He won't see this. Only thing there is is for other people who aren't referred to in these posts to somehow get offended, or to find something to whine about. Whatever.

Thirdly, Froome exposed himself to this by making this picture and posting it on social media. It's not our duty to like it.

The journalist was the complete opposite. She didn't post a 'hey look at me' picture to a million followers, and Cound decided to start insulting her in a place where she's very likely to read it.

Body shaming is bad because it makes people feel bad. Michelle went in with a personal attack with the sole aim of making the woman in question feel horrible. Doubt Froome will be bothered by some anonymous people calling his body gross and anyway, he's inviting comments by making these photos public. Guess he didn't get the reaction he wanted, but that's all part of the game.
If I were to participate in some talent show (I would never, because I have no talent in anything  ) I am going out in public and inviting others to form an opinion on me - one they can share in public.
Can you imagine if we were no longer allowed to judge contestants' singing voice on X Factor or Idols - which is what they're showing off to the public

"Gross" is quite clearly body shaming.

It's irrelevant whether Froome (or his wife, who has posted here) would see it, the only relevant point is people masquerading as moral arbiters and then repeating the same thing themselves.

Froome looks like a cyclist. Guaranteed there are people posting here who look not dissimilar Nobody said anyone has to like it, just don't be hypocritical.

As for anyone that shows their body being fair game, well then we're encouraging only the body beautifuls to show theirs. And then we're back to body shaming.
