Body shaming is bad because it makes people feel bad. Michelle went in with a personal attack with the sole aim of making the woman in question feel horrible. Doubt Froome will be bothered by some anonymous people calling his body gross and anyway, he's inviting comments by making these photos public. Guess he didn't get the reaction he wanted, but that's all part of the game.
Great, I'll quote that part whenever I see a public figure getting fat or sl*t shamed or whatever other forms of shaming there are. They're asking for it, after all. Their problem if they don't get the desired reaction.
You don't immediately make the connection "naked person - body" in your mind?
What are you saying?

_______________________________________________________________________________________

On the photo itself, it's not pretty, but it has a certain aesthetic value, like a sighthound.

You said you would quote that line to excuse bodyshaming public figures because "they're asking for it because they're public figures". If you had read my post carefully, you would have realized that was not the point I made. My point was that anyone who shares pictures of their naked self or allows those pictures to be shared with the public, is asking for a reaction to those pictures and in extension, asking for a reaction to their body because everyone makes the connection "naked picture = body" in their mind. The only reason to be photographed naked or to photograph someone naked is to show off the body. I hope you now see why your parallel with any random public figure (who does not share naked pictures) is false.

As for your second point: so we essentially agree. Not sure why my post provoked such an emotional response. Not everyone enjoys having a photo of an emaciated naked cyclist shoved into their face when they open the internet.
Anyone who puts their body on display in a manner that draws attention to it is asking for a reaction, you don't have to be naked for that.

We don't agree. The picture doesn't bother me in the slightest, I don't find it gross. I'm not being emotional either.

I know Contador has retired and there is not much to write on his thread, but can his blind obsequious fans please stay off this forum?
Also, I'm not blind, but after seeing the Froome picture, I kinda wish I was

On all the threads in this forum I am constantly inundated with Froome hate. And, as I have written numerous times before, I understand why.
But please keep it away from the Froome thread.

Who the hell is Been and what have they said? I'm a bit lost now
José Been is a Dutch cycling reporter and commentator for Eurosport who shared the photo of Froome on social media and added that she believed he looks unhealthy. So Froome's wife Michelle replied to her saying "his BF% is 10% which is healthy and far more healthy than your 40%". Later José Been replied that she got that incorrect as her BF% is 33%, to which Michelle replied with a table that showed the different levels of body fat adding the hashtag #obese.
FYI José Been is overweight which according to her is because her cancer treatment made it impossible to lose weight for many years, she is now slowly losing weight.
seems Michelle took down a troll

Contador fan here but not sure why the hate here. No offense to my fellow AC fans, but how is that gross? I personall am a big fan of the ESPN body issue, which shows nude athletes from various sports because it shows the incredible body propelling the top 1% of the top 1% of athletes. I don't think the human body is gross; I think it's amazing and beautiful. Not saying I think that photo of CF is beautiful, but I don't see the issue. I think there would be a different reaction if Peter Sagan had done this (I won't say Contador because I just can't see it happening). I also think it's hypocritical to insult someone's body and complain about someone else insulting someone's body, regardless of the audience. Just my 2c.

So, seems people on here cannot see the difference between exaggeratingly expressing an opinion and being nasty in someone's face for the sake of it. Good to know and have made a mental note of the posters who seem to be okay with Michelle bullying a reporter.

Can you seriously not see the difference between calling a BODY gross and calling a PICTURE gross? Jesus effing Christ you guys are beyond annoying.

Don't be ridiculous, you can't possibly be that prudish? There's nothing pornographic whatsoever about that photo. He's naked, so what? That's what some human people look like.

And regardless of whether Froome is attractive or not, there's a certain non-sexual aestethic to the body of an athlete at the top of his or her game.
Like, google "Vince Wilfork espn" for the counter-point to Froome, a really fat NFL player who has a hugely impressive physique anyway.

Call me prudish but I don't want to have naked riders shoved into my face. If I am in the mood to look at naked people I'll find my way around. Cyclists' bodies just aren't very attractive to look at whichever way you turn it, especially the GC riders who tend to look like more muscular versions of concentration camp survivors.
There's nothing aesthetic about the picture except the body, if you're into it, which I'm not. As a professional photographer said on twitter, "it could have been done with more... style". Yes, I see a fit athlete but I can see that when he has his kit on as well and a fit naked body does not get my heart rate up the way it seems to for some others.

If it had been Marcel Kittel, maybe I wouldn't have minded as much, but I just do not enjoy it. That is my opinion and I am entitled to it.
I'm not going to google your "fat NFL player", I'll take your word for it.

On a side note, and this is a question for all of you, I'd be interested to know if your immediate reaction after seeing *that* Rasmussen photo wasn't either "yuck" or "what the hell"? If it was, what is the difference? Rasmussen didn't pose entirely naked so he is still fair game for criticism?

Anyway, way too much effort went into this discussion about an unattractive photo from my side and I'm tired of defending my POV. Time to move on.

Rasmussen, hm. Maybe "what the hell", I don't remember exactly what I thought the first time I saw that picture.
But I would say it's more like a photo of a climber coming down Mount Everest or something - surely not pretty, but impressive in the sense that it shows how much the human body can endure and how far people can transform their bodies to achieve their goals..

I apologize. I assumed that your comments regarding the picture represented your thoughts on the body. For the record, I do have a problem with Cound fat-shaming the reporter.

So we agree, the only difference is that my response was not admiration but rather that I would have preferred not to see that picture.

The Cound woman is a nasty piece of work, I hope we can agree.
She's demonstrated this in the past, and again now. Classless.
Unfortunately, it seems not everyone agrees with this...
Funnily enough, José Been and her co-commentator Karsten Kroon made a comment during broadcast about another rider's wife saying "at least she stays out of the spotlight - doesn't have a twitter account saying - I am rider X's wife" maybe someone relayed this to Cound.

Ok, now let's get this thread on topic again

What topic was that...............obviously there needs to be a thread for body image but I will stay relevant and mention the name Froome. I have a feeling that Froome is going to have more success at the Worlds which will top off his year quite nicely and the team's.

The times has been running this series of profile articles for months with different athletes pictured 'naked'. I could guess as soon as Froome did it all hell would break lose and people like Vayer would start spouting sh*t. What a bunch of losers.
You should be aware many people on here are not from the UK and as such, they generally only come into contact with British media if it is related to cycling in some way.

What kind of success do you have in mind? I guess a medal in the TTT and ITT is likely, but I don't see him beating Dumoulin in the ITT.

It was the way it was used out of context by the 'anti-doping' crusader that i found laughable.

Looking in great shape in that pic :D I don't have a problem with it,didn't expect but I don't see any reason for him to be ashamed of it.
I thought after Contador retirement his bots will be a rarely sight around here.Looks like i was wrong and they are more aggressive than ever.
the Dawg doing the double sent them over the edge
You think Contador fans care about Froome? Think again.
I usually just ignore him but naked photos are hard to ignore
