I just noticed that Froome has now 8 years in a row with a GT podium. That's some consistency. Has anyone else done that before ?
Yeah, I posted about this about a month ago. It's not only a podium, but a top two
just like Eddy's 8 and Bernard's 9 are. This fact was pointed out to me by a friend
that worked in sports analytics for a time and doesn't like the "podium" statistic as
so often the third place is not really in the running for the overall win, but perhaps
more likely in a fight with riders in fourth, fifth, sixth etc. just to stay on the podium.

Also nine consecutive GT finishes on the podium (with a couple of DNFs in between)

The others best ones:
13 Anquetil & Hinault
12 Merckx
9 Indurain & Froome

(Only Indurain had no DNFs during the run)

Thomas has just signed through 2021, Sky has Froome until 2020. I am already looking forward to the real or media-manufactured drama. I giggle at the thought of Froome riding for another team, how exciting that would be. Imagining him with whatever incarnation of QS is around then is particularly amusing. It is my secret hunch that he might be just as successful elsewhere, placing another nail in the coffin of Froome-haters.

Froome would be 36 if even if he rode for another team in 2021. Even if he left it would barely tell us something.

Besides, Thomas is only one year younger. The competition will not come from Thomas.

The only real problem Froome has for Tour leadership is if Bernal gets so obviously better than Froome AND starts throwing hissy fits about wanting Tour leadership.

The more interesting question for me is if Froome plans to ride the Vuelta again in 2019
Hope not, all baws in for the tour then the following year look at maybe a Giro- Vuelta attempt
Agreed. No coming to the Tour under-cooked with any thoughts of a Tour-Vuelta double in
2019, and most definitely the Giro-Vuelta double should be the Dawg's long range plan for
2020, especially with the Tokyo Olympic road cycling dates 25-29 July .... but who knows?

Why does everyone seem to assume that after tying the record for Tour wins, Froome won’t want to break it? Seems more likely to me that if he gets a fifth tour in 2019, then 2020 would at least go for the tour again, maybe even a Tour-Vuelta combo. He wants the Tour prestige, the Vuelta is his favorite race(?). And he’s won the Giro already.

So Fran Miller's bro stalks the CPA, then Michelle's other-half has his 2 cents worth. Something in the works maybe?
https://www.velonews.com/2018/09/ro...riders-press-for-a-larger-voice-in-cpa_479463
Tour de France star Chris Froome has emerged as a leading voice for change among disgruntled pro riders who are demanding more from their riders’ association.

The usually discreet Froome has lent his star power and voice to a budding movement among discontented factions of the peloton that are calling for better representation at the CPA (Cyclistes Professionales Associés) as well as more input at the highest levels of the sport.

“It’s time for a change,” Froome told VeloNews. “It’s been a long time coming.”

Speaking to VeloNews via telephone Thursday, Froome said riders are insisting that the CPA creates a more open and representative system. And there is even the threat of a splinter group separate and independent from the CPA if the riders are not satisfied.

“There is a lot of talking going on behind the scenes,” Froome said. “There is talk of potential of a new union or trying to work with the CPA. The ball is in their court.”

In a interview with the Gazzetta dello Sport he said that his plan is to be in top shape for another 5 years.

being in top shape can mean a lot of things, not necessarily that he still wants to be a GT leader in 3,4 or 5 years,

And what else could he be? Grupetto beast, like in the old days :D

In a few years, no shame for him to be the last man for Bernal , helping him to win GTs

It's totally up to Froome to decide what he wants to do if he can no longer win GTs.

I don't think Sky will force him into a domestique role or ditch him too quickly, but I do think they would do it if it were clear he was past it.

I don't know when his current contract runs out.
