Absolutely…Froomey used to be just a very good cyclist but since 2020 he's become a legend!
If someone would have asked me few years ago, do I believe Froome would be willing to fight back through what he now has gone through, I would have said: „No way! He loves cycling, but he has things in life that he enjoys even more. He‘ll quit as soon as he‘s not #1 any more.“…
The opposite has happened. He rides on, and keeps smiling even if he‘s dropped by CT riders at 2.1 or 2.2 races. He now has proven he loves what he does. Most other champions couldn’t stand these performance-wise humiliations.
But as we see with Valverde, Oscar Sevilla, Rebellin, Mancebo, and more and more older riders, this current road bike racing seems to be something like an „addiction“. The roads all over Europe are better and smoother than ever. These modern high-end pro bikes are incredibly fast, incredibly aesthetic, and - in addition to the powermeters and all devices - make training and racing an absolute pleasure. It‘s more fun than ever, it‘s actually even „more“ than cycling.
You see this stuff, modern textiles, modern bikes, and cannot wait going out, training and racing. New bikes, new everything, every twelve months. I think I understand why Froome seems to be more motivated than ever.
