I can't see Porte leaving Sky

Why would he ??? He has one of the bet setups and I imagine a good salary plus he gets on so well with Froome & other team mates and he gets a chance to be a leader

Why would he leave ??
More money....doubt he get that elesewhere
Chance to lead ...he has that already except for the Tour ...and he knows or must know that he is not a Tour contender

Ive asked this already in the riders schedule thread but I might get a better answer here. Nico Roche was due to do Paris Nice and he is on the start list on the official Paris Nice site. But on the latest press release he is missing and Nordhaug has been added to the sky roster. Has his schedule been changed recently? I havnt been able to find out anywhere. One thought is maybe he has been requested to ride with froome now at Tirreno. Thoughts anyone?

On Tuesday Roche said on Twitter he is doing Paris Nice
Imagine he wil be riding for Porte

here's ASO start list http://www.letour.fr/paris-nice/2015/us/teams/sky.html with ROCHE

here's Procyclingstat startlist http://www.procyclingstats.com/race/Paris_nice_2015-startlist with ROCHE

on Sky official site still no start lists for Tirreno nor Paris-Nice

It's possible he will stay. He will still earn good money and Froome will want him to stay. Maybe Porte himself is not confident riding for GC anyway in a grand tour. I would like to see him in good form for the Giro as that will be a good test for him but most people can't see anything but a Contador win I would think. A podium will be hard enough for Porte. A top 5 or better would be a good result I think and Sky will probably expect him to challenge for a podium or hope he does.

A lot will depend on his Giro performance. If he can win Giro or come very close, oh boy...

Apart from GreenEdge I am not sure where Porte would sign and they may not be able to afford him. Maybe one of the US based teams but I don't think it will be BMC. Maybe Radioshack as their GT ranks look thin. Lotto have Wellens but I guess they are a possibility. Katusha also might be possible. But I would probably say GreenEdge at this stage and they are developing some good riders for GTs like Chaves and the Yates brothers.

Logically, I don't think Porte will want to sign with a team that's weak. He can't win GT with weak team. So what being a leader in a weak team? In this modern cycling, it's hard to trample the dominance of strong team like sky, TS and moviestar to win GT by yourself. Porte isn't capable of doing it alone. So it's a headache for him to decide whether to stay at sky or be a leader somewhere else. Sky will provide him with strong team, but he will never be a sole leader next to Frome in TDF. That's Froome's sandbox. Kathusha is interesting prospect? Purito is getting old so shouldn't be problem to be leader there. But I can't see Porte in Kathusha either. Maybe Belkin?

Yeah that makes sense but really apart from Movistar, Sky, Tinkov and Astana, none of the other teams have a really strong GT team. Belkin is okay I suppose probably about the same level as BMC. Sometimes a team will buy new riders to support the leader so if GE was the team he went to they might buy a few extra riders while letting go some of the existing ones. GE would probably have to add a few more climbers. I can't really see Porte at Katusha either.

In my view riding T-A would be better for his chances of riding the TDF with Froome as he can form a closer bond with him. Also Porte and Thomas seem to be in great form currently and would have more leadership opportunities at PN with two ITT's which they are better at then Roche.

1 switch to the lowest possible gear
2 look down to check your power output

5 spin legs as fast as you can

when your boy gets out of the saddle he looks like a drunk trying to jog on a trampoline so I wouldn't be to critical of other riders style.

I think Roche's chances of riding the Tour (excluding illness or accident are pretty safe)

P/N is good race to test your TT and maybe he wants to exorise the Cote d Eze demons

Roche already knew Froome very well before joining Sky. They both live in Monaco and train together.

Nibali never was and never will be a favourite when AC and Froome are at their A-game,
Let's wait and see on that one. As far as I'm aware, AC, Nibs, Quintana, Froome have never been in the same race with their A game. Let's all hope they get there safely in July and let the fun begin;)

+1

Let's hope for some great tactics and a good Nibali in the Tour. I don't think Quintana has enough to win the Tour.
I have a feeling that after Andalucia....Alberto and Chris will be training with an incredible motivation and that they forget about everything other than training and racing until July.

I think Froome will arrive in 2013 Ax-3 form and Alberto in 2009 form. There have to be interesting tactics (hopefully a bit of rain but no crashes) otherwise it might be a 2-way battle.

And it's unlikely they ever will.
