He didn't say 'thelittle colombian', I watched the interview, he said, 'a little Colombian', as in 'I would love to win but there's a certain little Colombian I have to beat.' It really isn't remotely disrespectful.

Anyway, I was reading the cyclingnews article and it said this

It seems Froome and Nibali have never had a good relationship, with events during last year's Tour de France worsening their relationship

Did I miss something at last years tour, because the article provides no context?

You do have an agenda with Froome, you can't let the coffee comment from his book drop...
I don't have an agenda, I have an issue with him, and it's his false modesty.

Fair enough, you may have a point there. Now, admit you were wrong on the respect and race thing, and we can draw a line under it.

Some of the comments in here today have made me actual laugh out loud. How some people can construe that comment as racist is hilarious, but also quite scary, accusing people of very serious things like that, it's pathetic.

Haters deliberately quoting the person they hate out of context to make the target look bad in order to justify the hate? Why should anyone be surprised, this has been happening long before the internet

Oh, I never said anything about racism. I posted "Not racist but it is slightly disrespectful imo."
I have an issue with Froome's false modesty (as stated above) and another (related) thing I do not like is how he always claims to have huge respect for his rivals yet he often has little digs at others that don't show much respect IMO. This is another one of those digs. Not a big deal in and of itself but in the bigger picture it's quite significant (again in my opinion).

Froomes in 2nd on GC, Quintana in yellow though tangles his bars in a fans camera bag while riding beside Froome. Froome sees Quintana drift back a couple of wheels looking down at tangled bag slowing him down. Froome looks around again a few metres later and sees Quintana stopping to a hault to untangle the bag that's jamming his wheel and slowing him down like the brake is on. Froome attacks immediatly he sees this and rides off to win a stage. Not enough to win Le Tour, but a win is a win after all?! Froome says after the stage he didn't see anything.

The people calling this racist are actually exposing their own subconscious racism. Why is it disparaging to call someone Colombian? What is wrong with Colombia? Is it racist to call someone American? Argentinian? Mexican? Someone from Colombia is called Colombian. If you think that is an insult, oh boy.

However, I could see how, say, Flor, finds referring to him as the "little Colombian" is a little disrespectful in an alpha dog posturing sort of way. Doesn't really bother me, though, that much. I think he is a bit of a hyper competitive ***, though, just hides it better than Lance did. Going after Nibali, "accidentally" dropping his team leader Wiggo when he attacked him at a weak moment, writing kind of snide things about AC in his book...

Say what you will about his elbows and delayed trajectory, the man can ride a bike. Peak Froome likely beats every Tour winner of the past decade except maybe peak Contador. Peak Nibali would hang.

Froome has really deserved the win for this TDF.

By the way, imagine we had a normal TDF route instead of the travesty that we get served this year, you know, one with TT's. Nobody would even be talking about the little Colombian having a shot for the win if he attacked from far out or whatever. :p

Froome rode well in ever terrain that he got and with a normal route he would have won in an even more dominant fashion.

Again another comment from Froome that has been made into a mountain from a mole hill. It does appear that quite a few people (mainly on twitter) just spin everything he says into a negative.
He always gives rivals respect in interviews bar the odd incident and he has had to put up with a lot of BS over the last few weeks, From reporters wanting a witch hunt to some 'fans' appalling behaviour of spitting and urine throwing.

there's not going any love between Nibali and Froome. First Nibali accused froome for causing his crash. Now Froome accused Nibali attacked him while he was having mechanical. First weeek incident, nibali was the one who agitated easily. Now it's Froomey's turn. He even got into Valverde's case on the descent. He is twitchy. But he defends his lead well today. His win is a well deserve win. Quintana should have chipping his deficit long time ago. Trying to keep valverde in 3rd podium .. probably cost them too by letting nibali goes.

Out the fab 4 only Contador will go home empty handed. All he got is tired, cramp and fatigue body, plus watching helplessly everyone winning stage and attack left to right as they please. In hindsight, at least he got Giro win.

The way the word 'little' was used in Froomes context I took it that he actually means the opposite and it's actually a compliment of Quintana for what a 'big' rival he's actually been for Froome. It's like when Mollema was asked how do you face the daunting prospect of the climbs tomorrow and he replies that 'oh i've just got to get over two little climbs and then it's over. It's using opposites to signify just how much bigger they seem than you want to admit to.

Actually while I feel sorry he's got to endure such behaviour from those "fans", and while it's clearly not easy racing at best with such a pressure connected to his performances, the man's never been a class act.
Not in this Tour.
Not the last, remarking how Nibali won just because he wasn't there.
Not even before, what with the climb to La Toussuire during Wiggins' Tour.

Froome has absolutely zero class. As a rider, with his FUGLY position, as a sportsman, with his behaviour.
There are many likable fellas at Sky.
He's not one of them.
And don't get me started on his b...wife

All the people that know Froome knows he is a lovely guy, and I ma sure Quintana and Nibali think the same.

Indeed. And if he could get the Wiggins shaped chip off of his shoulder he would seriously break some records.
I like Froome as a rider but he really does himself no favours sometimes. That said I think he has done very little wrong at this tour and his comments today re nibali were spot on.

All this whinning about unsporting behaviour for being attacked when he had a mechanical tells me he would have had very tough times riding against the likes of Hinault and Fignon. Not just because they were ruthless trying to get advantage in those situations; they would have been ruthless answering his whinning. Those were the days.

So true. It was also an insult to the audience with his amateurish acting.

But he doesnt deserve what is thrown at him now. Sad to see.

I have no doubt as soon as even the very likeable Thomas is one day in yellow, Social Media will still try to smash his skull in with words juts like those for Froome.
