We all knew he was going, but now he has confirmed he will be at the Vuelta.

Non-news news, but who's in the Sky team will be interesting.
If Sky fails next year, ie. no Yellow in Paris, where do they go?
Try to replace Froome, change their focus or drop out of the sport?

I could see them moving away from being British, perhaps. As in, there could be a Sky Italia with Moscon as a leader and sign Formolo or someone like that for the Giro. The British riders might stay or maybe there'd be enough interest in Britain for a pro conti team for the likes of Thomas, Kennaugh, Hart etc.

I see Tour of Spain starts with a TTT. Froome should have race wrapped up after that.

The long ITT will be the real clincher. Froome can happily wheel-suck all the way to the ITT.

I agree, looking at what he did in last years TT at the Vuelta it's a huge advantage for him, plus this years is even longer at 42km. If he doesn't suffer any bad luck I think he's going to be very difficult to beat.

Looks like the Vuelta will be over before it begins...hard to see past Froome really
So Froome to win...next !

I agree.
What I hope to see though is a rejuvenated Aru. He has had an easier year overall, so maybe he can recover well?.... just a hope though. The itt takes away any chance Chaves might have had.

Most likely Aru won't be at the Vuelta, due to contract issues (wants to leave, Astana won't eens him to Vuelta)

Froome"s criterium schedule seems a bit outrageous if he wants to win the Vuelta

http://www.nu.nl/wielrennen/4862046/tourwinnaar-froome-doet-alsnog-mee-criterium-etten-leur.html

scheduled to ride two criteriums less than a week before the vuelta

one in kazachstan and one in the netherlands and thats on consecutive days

As I've said before, if he does all this ****, he's not serious about winning the Vuelta, sorry.
yeah i really can"t find a good reason to do that

Froome does a silly amount of post tour crits every year, I guess because it's fun and $$$? I agree it does seem weird though.

I guess they decided it's ok for his recovery since you need to cycle a bit anyways and they can work the crits into his plan plus its good for his mental health?

And Michelle and Chris were partying with royalty, ex-Bond Girls,
supermodels, stars of the stage and screen, etc. at a Gala Ball
in Monaco on the weekend.

Caviar is a known "super-food" though, and I imagine Champagne,
in moderation, may have some health benefits too.

edit: I didn't put in that caviar link, the website did

Hmmm?

Aru wants to leave Astana ?? Why ? ..And whre is going to go ?
Astana let Nibali & Landa go and they hung on to Aru ...so now why would he leave ?

Sure team was not great at Tour but alot of Astana riders sick or injured, etc

Wonder why he even bothers with the criteriums, how much can they possibly pay that it makes the time away & travel worthwhile

Dumoulin asks more than 100k I think. Not sure if that's Netherlands only. Imagine Froome can get a bit more, and that Kazachstan is either part of said contract (though i'm clueless as to what that is) or pays even more

edit, it's quite a bit less than I thought. The Dumoulin number is from some interview with the organisers of the Maastricht criterium, which is a very small one (30k budget_, but they couldn't get the hometown hero cause he costs more than their entire budget.

Isn't the Expo criterium the one that they organized in Memory of Scarponi? His family will be there and according to La Gazzetta Quintana and Aru will also ride that criterium.

I guess the real problem is he has hit the limit in terms of salary so everything he wins beyond the Tour has very limited utility. Then making 50k here and there in criteriums is a nice bonus even if suboptimal for a Vuelta win.
