You can't make this stuff up, his most successful season yet is proof of his weakness that will not see him win the Giro

You are reading what you want - The discussion is covering three main themes

- Possibility of doing the Giro/TDF double which on recent history must be considered doubtful and in fact no-one has even come close
- Whether the cooler/rainy conditions of the Giro will suit Froome
- Longer term implications of doing four consecutive GT's

I am Froome's team manager, so I want him to do the Giro/Vuelta double in 2018,to ensure his longevity in the sport - It's fantastic for the sport for Froome to ride the Giro - It's what he does later which is the issue.

Another Vuelta win wouldn't add much to his palmares though.
The Giro-Tour double would be a huge risk, but still worth it if he thinks he has a 25% chance or something to do it imo.

You want to win - More likely Froome can do Giro/Vuelta double, rather than Giro/TDF double.

Froome going for the real double seems a bit like Raphaël Géminiani making Anquetil ride and win Dauphiné & Paris-Bordeaux. It was a PR stunt to bring Anquetil over to the fans. They disliked him for winning and for winning in a very calculated way. That was Géminiani's way to get them to love him.

They could even try the double plus rainbow jersey. Basically cement a legacy as one of the all time greats.

Of course this all is a high risk, but on the other side there isn't much for him to lose.

Should there be an "If" at the beginning of this sentence?

Remember the way Froome chased the points jersey in the final stage of the Vuelta after he wrapped up the GC - He'll ride the Giro to win and that means fall gas - My fear is Froome shortens his career by doing the Giro/TDF double - It's a tough ask at the age of 33 - Four GT's in a row could shorten his career.

I think it's a mistake. After doing the double I thought he would be all in for the Tour and maybe the Worlds. He could end up winning neither but if he does win the Giro he will still have to turn the clock back to win the Tour as well and I don't see that happening. He relied on his team more than ever in the Tour and also on the TT. His days of mountain brilliance seem to be over. But if he does manage to do the double you really have to question whether riders like Quintana have been overrated or whether they were ever going to beat Froome anyway. Maybe Quintana is as good as he is going to get. The next few seasons will tell. The 2014/15 Quintana seems to have disappeared.

I think its possibly a bit premature to make this call. Everything Froome did last year was about the double. That meant doing enough, and just enough, to win, without any of the spectacular MTF wins we've seen from him in the past which take huge amounts of energy out of the legs. It remains to be seen if he still has the ability to call upon his old dominance in the mountains if required.

Im sure Sky would have a similar blue print in mind, again relying heavily on the strength of the team to enable Froome to expend as little energy as possible across both tours, if they do decide to go for the Giro/Tour double.

froome wants to be a legend. hats off for him, he could only win le tour and reach 5 wins like hinault, indurain, etc but he preferes to try giro-tour. great to see it

Interested to see how Froome's team compares from the Giro to the TDF - Will Sky go for similar strength squads or will the TDF squad still be paramount - It will be a balancing act because whoever is Sky's leader for the Vuelta should miss the TDF - I suspect teams will make this a hard Giro to soften Froome up for the TDF.

I have said last September the Giro organizers were going to tailor made the course for Froome to participate, and they did...
Only one stage with 2000 mt elevations?
All other stages are pretty easy compare to Giro standards.
It is also rumored Froome receiving 2 millions from the organizers to participate.
Most likely the money are coming from Israel (via U.S.A. xx Billions aid each year).

How this is supposed to be a Giro tailored on Froome I don't know.
It looks well balanced to me.

Don’t matter much. Whatever he puts his mind to he is in with a massive chance of winning. Most GT routes suit truly great GT riders.

it could also work against him as if he pulls off the double, and more, the microscope on team sky will be difficult.

I noticed that what we know and read on here and twitter, compared to what fans and people know and care out there, in the daily world, is very different.
RCS do not care about any SKY scandal of committee of motor suspicion.
on here and twitter it is big, because we´re in the know. out there on the roads is fine. and I am glad it is.
