And now Sky on their FB says they believe it was puncture too.

What ? He can take tons in the TT's and he'll be up there with Top 10 best climbers imo. He'll has a chance still easily.

However, 3K rule might apply here. No idea just yet.

tons? how much time is tons? and against who? all I am saying podium for him is very very unlikely. top ten? Sure, there is still chance if he wants to fight for GC.

Podium ?

Come on. They go for Wiggo here to win.

For him a target is Top 10, anything more than that is above expectations. Top 10 and Wiggins win is a dream mate ;)

Does the 3km rule apply with this finish? or they consider it a mountain finish?

Nope, 45 points for the win so its a sprint stage, 3km rule applies.

"In the event that a rider or riders suffer a fall,
puncture or mechanical incident in the last
3 kilometres and such an incident is duly
recognised, the rider or riders involved are
credited with the same finishing time of the
rider or riders they were with at the time of
the incident."

Incidentally, the section of the rulebook which specifies which stages of the race this applies to has not been updated from last year - very shoddy.

They commented on Dominic's comment section who commented on Froome loosing time ;)

Thanks for clarifying. A comment like that wouldn't come up on my news feed; i'd have to go looking for it

3 km rule doesn't apply because it's a cat. climb I read somewhere.

Nope, the rule book specifies which stages - the french section has been updated -

Cette mesure n’est pas applicable :
• pour les arrivées du Prologue, de la 9e et
de la 19e étapes disputées contre la montre
individuellement ;
• pour les arrivées en sommet des 7e, 11e, et
17e étapes.

Why is there so much doubt about the 3 km rule, can't ASO just give us a list of stages on which the rule applies?

I suspect they do. I think the doubt is due to so many people asking about it on the forums! (including myself)

They do, it is on their website, and I have quoted it for you below.

It applies today, so if the commisaires can be satisfied that he had a flat, and he was in contact when it happened, he gets the same time.

Not quite so fortunate was team-mate Chris Froome who suffered a puncture in the last 10km and, despite battling hard and with the assistance of team-mate Richie Porte, crossed the line in 95th, 1:25 down.

Raal shame and bad luck, but it's not over for him yet ;)

no and thats why he didn't win;)

Yeah but I mean that by starting as a gregario he ended 2nd; I bet many riders would sign right away for that (by doing almost nothing the years before).

Anyway today he lost quiet some time.
