Tough luck for Cian today- it looked like he just hit the wall at the wrong time- had to race the way he did to get the gap but guess he was in the red too long and paid in the end. Still a promising set of results with San Sebastian' l'Ain and Czech Tour.

Longer term I suspect he lacks the top end acceleration to be an elite GT rider as looks more diesel (his ability to ride people off wheels is impressive) but still looks good enough to be a very useful tool in a mountain train for Jonas in the GTs.

They commented that he was in the big chainring(?) It was like his legs turned to cement in the final few meters.. He was flying until he wasn't.. Like struck by lightning!!

He looked to be turning it over great!! He looked awesome and then.....
But all in all, he still rode great, and this has been an excellent month.. Even today his result was decent. Visma has another reason to be optimistic.

For me as long as he flips the script and his name is reestablished as a racer and not some problematic drama queen.. He is still young, super talented and fits in the story with Onley, Lipowitz, Del Toro, Ayuso, there is room for him..

Cian's ambitions and those of the team were starting to diverge. At this time, we cannot offer Cian the role and program he considers essential for his development. After very open and honest discussions, we accepted his request to take the next step in his career. We wish Cian every success.

So basically Plugge said we no longer believe in Cian, so we gave him a different programme. Cian did not like that.He still believes in himself, so he's moving to movistar were he can continue his GT dreams.

Which is a bit weird because it's not like they have much better riders for this. There is Vingegaard and Jorgenson. That's it. Don't understand why you wouldn't be able to give Uijtdebroeks a free role in Giro or Vuelta to go for his GC ambitions, and the rest of the team rides for Jorgenson/Vingegaard.

Unless you really don't believe in Uijtdebroeks anymore.

EDIT: Completely forgot about S. Yates... Nevermind I understand Visma's decision. A shame Uijtdebroeks wasn't able to find a better team.

I bet it comes down to the Tour. It's always about the Tour for some riders and Visma was not prepared to give him a free role in the Tour but rather only a domestique role for Vingegaard. That would also probably mean the same type of role in lead up races as well.

Another possibility could be that they want to focus more on supporting Brennan in a GT so him and some support might take up half a squad in say the Giro or Vuelta and then they'd have the likes of Yates and Jorgenson who are first in line to be leaders without Vingegaard so that perhaps doesn't leave room for any other free role for anyone else to go for GC.

I think they don't want to give him a free role in ANY GT, and that that is the issue. Cian probably wants to go for a GC in a GT again next year. Doesn't have to be TDF, he isn't delusional.

He did this with Bora 2 years ago, too. He just wants to be the only leader at big races and doesn't accept other riders next to him.
