Any reason to assume Evenepoel wasn't full gas there? He recovers better on the flats anyway.
The only reason I can think of is that he feels confident he’ll drop them on the last climb and don’t want a long solo just before the WC.

Mikel Landa seems to have ridden into form one month too late. Really wondered what the *** happened in his preparation, its similar to Roberto Heras on Liberty Seguros where he just got *** out every time the road went uphill in France.

reasons:
1. He didn't attack, just set a hard pace: he only was dancing on the pedals on the steep part.
2. He looked comfortable: fresh in the face, controlling his effort.
3. He didn't drop Bilbao and Vlasov. If he goes full gas, he will drop them.

Need more reasons?

Didn't he recover from injury/sickness quite late to peak for the Tour. So probably should have gotten better during the Tour

Wonder if Evenepoel will be fooled by Bilbao pointing behind and refusing to pull on the flat

Yeah I've got a powerhouse teammate he's not far behind so I can't do a turn sorry

Yes, but Bilbao was riding when I wrote that. at least now it seems that they are doing it by the book
the 'problem' is, ofcourse, that they simply won't catch the front, even if Landa and Gall are riding at their max. They simply can't take back 1:30 until the next climb starts.
Maybe Remco will be annoyed and start attacking on the flat, as a result of / if Bilbao not helping.

That's what he almost always does. He was definitely surging a little bit on the steep sections.
