I'll go with Sanchez. Gilbert top five. I don't have Gilbert's results memorized but has he finished below top 5 in a classic/semi-classic yet this year?

The Ronde van Vlaanderen is the only one where he missed the top 3. Unless you coun't G-W, but I don't think it's worth the name classic.

yes:
Tour of Flanders (top10) and Gent-Wegelgem (around 30th, but he worked for Greipel)

Has anyone heard something about Gilbert's mirror image by the way? Haven't seen him since the Tour of Belgium.

Classica - stacked field

Strong field...if these guys show. Some tired legs on that list, tho. How 'bout Purito? He should be fresh :)

I thought Phil would be tired after the tour, but from what he said, he will be a factor. JRo and Samu are the other main favourites. Chavanel and de Gendt were riding themselves into form after crashes in week 1. GvA might be up there in the mix (I would call San Sebastian hilly rather than mountainous and that suits him). Rabobank look to have the best team by far (too many chiefs?). Will Gesink and Ten Dam be 100% fit?

The race has had so many strange winners in last few years (in past seven years Valverde is the only one with another big one-day race) so I predict another one. Don't want to name it.

Can't really see past Gilbert here. Would love for Cunego or Sanchez to win though.

My thoughts exactly.

I really like this race. I think it has a unique character and nice scenery. It's a fantastic one-day classic but we also get a good look at how riders are recovering from the Tour and how other riders are getting in shape for the Vuelta. I think a lot of riders don't know their own form at this time and some of them try things out that can be interesting.

Chavanel could be very good here. I think this course is too long for de Gendt. I don't think Gesink will ride but Rabobank should have a good team anyway.

Last year Luis Leon Sanchez was awesome (that attack was insane), and he didn't seem to be that good in the TDF, so riders that did well but not amazing might also be up there for the win.

Van Avermaet

A.Schleck will DNF somewhere in the 2nd half, complaining about sore back or something similar.

GvA will see the backs of the 10-15 contenders that simply climbs better, disappear up the 1st cat.

so... no.
