I remember seeing a picture of Rob Hayles after I think he won the 2008 British Champs. He's sat down on a grass bank looking absolutely wasted and just holding one figure up in the air (not the middle one!). Has anyone got that?

I'm not exactly a fan of the one who pushed, but he was in his right.

Those clowns running besides cyclists, swerving due to exertion/booze/ whatever floats their boat... it's a disgrace. There have been many instances where there couldn't be any demarages due to the public. Also riders get hindered or even fall due to these idiots.

The public should just be the public: give the rider berth and stay put. If you want to make a statement, carry a banner, that will be good enough.

I just found it funny watching the lard **** eating snow no matter who it was who pushed him. I haven't seen those photos before.

Hmm now that I look closer...is that Floyd in that suit??

I've some old pictures, from thirty years ago, of just what we saw yesterday: TT on lightweight road bikes, mechanic following as motorcycle passenger with spare bike on shoulder. Most obvious difference is helmet practices.

Don't really get how the mechanic was able to follow Pinotti up the chronoscalato. He must be pretty good on the bike himself.

In a book, actually: Steve Snowling's Bicycle Mechanics in workshop and competition. I'd seen the practice before, but that's the one I could get up and go right to. Book was published in the mid-eighties, and is wonderful on old-school maintenance and preparation practices.

The picture shows what seems to be a TT in the Sealink International stage-race in the eighties.

I've looked online for similar images but can't find any just now.
