Am I the only one who thinks that the 'picture of the year' nominees this year are weak across the board?

No. I thought that the pic of cav/haussler crash that showed the bent front wheel was far better than the one put in that list. Most of the rest were quite poor...

+1. Especially given that there were many better photos published by CN this year. One can only assume it's a rights thing.

the photos are pretty disappointing.

lol what's with that?

I guess we all have to ask ourselves, which end of cadel do we prefer? His backside or that beautiful face?

Would be nice to have a show and discuss about how everyone voted. My ballot:

Most improved: Peter Sagan
Best stage race: Giro
Best one-day: Men's Worlds
Best male roadie: Nibali
Best female roadie: Marianne Vos
Best team: Liquigas
Best male trackie: Cameron Meyer (three Golds in one WC is damn impressive)
Best female trackie: Anna Meares
Best male cyclo-crosser: Stybar
Best female cyclo-crosser: Marianne Vos
Rider of the year: Nibali
Legend of cycling: Servais Knaven (I know Fignon will walk this.... Althouh Ballerini is an outside shot, but had to go Dutch)
Moment of the Year: Evans' stage 7 win in the Giro
Picture of the Year: The stage 4 shot from the ToC... Gorgeous.

I left the mountain bike and the technical question blank, since I don't know s*** about them.

Same here, any non-road stuff, i picked randomly, sometimes i had to look up their palmares quickly. As for cyclocross, Stybar was an obvious choice to me.
My answers are a bit similar to yours, as i can recall, except for the shot of the year, I picked Lars Boom in the PN prologue. The shot is great and i remember that it was an incredible performance.

Well we know you like both sides of him, but it's about the picture. Cadel in the mud could be an epic pic, but this one isn't. The picture just isn't very good.

+1
the muddy cadel shot is just a stock photo of a muddy and wet rider - nothing special about it all...

there were far better photos from the Giro

I'll bet David Millar's bike that Cervelo wins best steed.

Again.

For no reason.

Again.

As for the pics, I was disappointed, too. I figured the one of Cancellara leading a Schleck on the stones would be there, for sure. (Maybe it was, and I missed it.)

Here are a few of my favorites.

A tiny, triumphant Swiss flag surrounded by giant Lions:

Three of the best national kits I've ever seen, and all posed in a kind of hear no evil, speak no evil, see no evil shot:

Arenberg. The favorites driving the pace at the head of the peloton. What more could you want?:

i think someone should start a new thread "2010 best pics" or something.jesus christ how much till tour down under?

Hahaha I feel you man. I'm going through the same. Checking this site everyday... for what reason? There is nothing happening really.. Just to keep that cycling feeling. I'm going to get a calendar that ends once the cycling season starts again. I will have tears of joy once I reach the end of that calendar ;P

I must have overlooked his name but if not-how is Michael Rogers on there for rider of the year and Oscar Freire is not?

Mick won the fourth grand tour, all Oscar managed to win was some piddling early-season warm-up spin across the north of Italy.
