i think Sky have much better domestiques people cant just say becus Porte done well in Paris Nice that he cant class as a dom, Porte was excellent all year when racing for Froome.

I agree but he was just not a domestique nor even a superdomestique all year round.

Voted Kreuziger but really is Porte. Two big days in a row in Oman, playing the role of annoying teammate in Corsica, tireless turn in awful weather in Romandie, and launching Froome in the Tour Bonascre/Ventoux. Should also get a lot of points for riding alongside Froome on Alpe d'Huez.

But was it necessary?

We all know Porte couldve been 2nd in the TDF, but when you simply don't have a leader who needs ur services, how can you be a required domestique?

Yes Porte did make that dirty little food trick on D'huez, but do you honestly think it had any impact on the race except for a winning margin 1-1½ minutes smaller?
If doing illegal stuff is what we are measuring the quality of a domestique on, then this thread is clearly stupid, and I actually dont think it is.

Domestique translates as servant and he served Froome very well. Froome DID require him to secure the win on numerous occasions. As noted above, the day on CI where, even as leader Porte played 2nd fiddle, not following a Froome attack. "Don't attack yellow" said some, others noted his loyalty to the team leader. We don't know the severity of the food issue on Huez, but without the feed, Froome would perhaps have lost much more than a minute and a half.

Porte was the strongest support rider, but I'm not sure his leader really needed him much.

Also how did Kittel get some many wins in TdF? Who was the main train man?

I seem to recall Devo doing lots of work for Cancellara during the double.

What about J-Rod's sidekick, Moreno. Any good this year?

Vasil was strong for Porte, but he failed when it mattered most: TdF.

Best member of a sprint train should be another poll

Porte and Kiryienka were great for Sky in the stage races and GVA was great in the classics for BMC. There are probably quite a few not really one that stands out.

While Porte was really impressive throughout the season, he didn't sacrifice a lot in terms of personal achievement. He worked for the rider who was in better shape and had better chances which were materialized at the end.
On the other hand, Kreuziger stood by the Contador, respecting the roles and expecting of him a ride that would justify the team hierarchy, but at the end they left empty handed without notable effort or a chance for Kreuziger.
Kreuziger sacrificed much more than Porte, so my vote goes to him.

The belrussian beast hands down, known to ride a 100km on the front to keep a break in check and a great win for him this year much deserved

But then again, he was only a good domestique for a very short period of time, from Paris-Nice until Vuelta Al Pais Vasco...After that he was utterly useless in Dauphine and TDF, whereas in Vuelta he didn't do any domestique work at all.

This poll is about the best domestique of the season, not the best domestique over 1 month (Mars to April) ;)
