Obviously Florian didn't ride a very tactical race at all today, but he shouldn't be held back because of Roglic. Thats where the delusional part is. He's clearly the stronger rider. He should definitely have played his cards better, but thats as much if not even more on the DS.

It is delusional if you expect him to solely ride for Roglic when he's clearly the stronger one at the moment.

I mean who isn't, clearly the strongest at RBH. And secondly riding against isn't the same as not riding for. But anyway it is what it is. This likely won't change in this team so i guess best to strengthen the team further and for them to be all over it. Due to strength of numbers and individual quality they should still win some.

In this team? I didn’t see Evenepoel ride for himself once it was clear that Lipo was stronger in Catalunya

@Berniece

If i remember correctly neither of them won anything and Remco raced for himself on at least stage 7. That is rather consistent with the quote you responded to. So it is what it is at this team. That is i guess on how they roll.

I’d simply say that RBH is currently showing that having multiple captains in a race isn’t always an advantage. It always looks good on paper. You could take turns attacking, putting pressure on the opposition, and so on. But that only works if the opposition isn’t stronger. That was Vingegaard; now it’s Seixas. And if you then sometimes hold back for one another, that’s the first thing to hold you back. Other teams at this level don’t currently have that problem. There’s a clear leader – or all the captains are ‘only’ good enough for the top 10 (Astana, Movistar and Lidl are in this situation at the moment). But RBH is the only team that can currently secure podium places in stage races with four captains. Other teams, however, have individual riders who are stronger. And in that case, having two captains is of little use. Riders are riding more boldly these days. Ten years ago, riders rarely attacked so early, certainly not when the captain was well ahead. Twenry years ago, it wouldn’t have been at all unusual for Seixas to have let Lipo take the win today. That’s no longer the case. And because the focus is much more on winning, there’s little left to capitalise on a minor weakness or mistake, as perhaps not as much of a lead was built up beforehand as might have been possible.

Unwritten rule is if you abandon your leader you at least have to win. So all in all this was not OK today.
You’re right, if Roglic was able to keep up Lipo would have had a teammate with him on the ultimate climb and could have won. Unfortunately Roglic couldn’t keep up with his stronger teammate and leader and Bora missed out.

That neither of them won doesn’t really matter, and at stage 7 there was no reason to ride for Lipowitz anymore. Currently there is still a good reason to ride for Lipowitz. You can try to defend it however you want, but this is just classic Roglic

Absurd amount of drama over a strategy that overall does pretty fine maximizing the result.

Lipowitz doesn't have to wait for Roglic, and Roglic consistently does set up attacks for Lipowitz or Pellizzari when he's racing with them. He just doesn't set himself on fire for either because it woudln't increases their chances of success at all.

They've put Seixas under pressure from a long range 2 stages in a row without throwing away 2 GC podiums. That's literally all you can do

but giving himself a better chance to win the stage would have been nice

Ok, it seems he is very stupid or was completely cooked and his DS had fallen into a coma and lost communication at the same time

thankfully most mountain stages in the tour are very straightforward

as long as you dont go potato hunting on madeleine and then afterwards go once again before loze

Well, this was also very straightforward from about 40k out when he got that help from EF and Ineos, it was clear he‘d just have to set his own pace on the last climb and finish, that‘s more than enough time for the team car to tell him that as well, it‘s just hard to understand

I somehow expected a better climbing level this year. Yes he is constantly on the podium but I don’t see any progression towards Jo as or Pogi. Is it just me?

i think he has been better than last year so far and is on track to be the captain in the tour
Did the break get away on the climb? If so it's not really excusable to miss it.
btw yes it did on the first gorla / elosua

Just doesn't have the skillset to win races. Not explosive. And even though he is good in TTs there will always be a GC guy that beats him. Biggest strength compared to other 2nd tier GC riders is endurance and resistance to attrition. But he is not strong enough to create a hard race by himself.
In a way he actually benefits from Pog/Vinge/Seixas because they make the race hard. Making it easier for Lipowitz to finish 2nd/3rd.

Yeah he's a step below the top guys and I doubt he'll ever get there.

That said, he also hasn't raced while in for in a race without Pogacar/Vingegaard/Seixas since last year's Itzulia. I think he probably does have the capacity to make races hard by himself, he's just never actually been the strongest
