Commentary and coverage on HBO MAX (formerly TNT, Discovery, EuroSport etc)

Page 302 - Get up to date with the latest news, scores & standings from the Cycling News Community.
Sometimes they have kept commentary going through the ad breaks, sometimes it has just been ambient sound.

And once it was Robbie McEwan asking "So are we just staying quiet now?"

Every time they went for ad breaks in the past, right up to the Dauphiné, they have said "You can avoid adverts by subscribing to Discovery+." Surely that now amounts to false advertising.

Nope, in the giro there was 3 streams. It's a deliberate decision
Well arguably all decisions are deliberate.

But TNT have confirmed the quad view is the ad free version for the TdF, which technically it is, its just comms free in the breaks.

We'll see how long their position holds, but they've got alot more streams tomorrow vying for space

I was watching some coverage yesterday of ITV (UK) on my phone yesterday whilst out. Even on a small screen I could see Remco getting pushed off the road and he didn't make the split.

So how the f#@k can professional commentators miss it?

Same when Ackerman opened his sprint way too early. Boulting almost shot his load. It was clear he was opening it way too early.

I see 'Gee' wasn't criticised either for missing the split too.

Looks from the app as though the Women's Giro will have ad-free coverage on Discovery+. So this is purely taking advantage of the Tour.

but does the Womens giro have the quad view thing ?

I genuinely think whilst yes theyre trying to maximise revenue from their biggest cycling race they have, and why wouldnt they. And that their streaming platform can support more streams per broadcast. But theyve set it to 2 max for the TdF at the moment because we're right in the middle of peak summer sports where youve got a whole bunch of stuff theyve got to fit on this streaming service

like literally their 4 linear channels will be showing live broadcasts all at the same time today. including the Giro which I dont remember it being shown live before whilst TdF was happening, theres rallying, mountain biking, some motorbiking and so on and so on, all of that takes up room on a streaming service and there is a finite limit on resources and bandwidth they can use.

and the fans claimed to have liked the quad view thing, so thats the TdF stream number 2 theyve gone , for now, we'll see what happens during the week,as in theory there should be more room come available.

It wasn't that they missed the Ackermann attack: it was misidentified as Stewart, and, being thought to be a British rider, it was acclaimed as heroic, plucky, race-defining, and destined to be successful until it wasn't.

Neds never been that great at commentating these races imo, he's always been a better reporter/writer/presenter and sort of ended up in the booth because ITV didnt know where else to go without Liggett & Duffers.

On ITV they definitely called it out as Ackermann. It's difficult to miss Stewart due to his sleeved tattoos 🤣

Totally agree. I enjoy his podcasts because it's got history in it and that's something I enjoy. But he does miss a lot during races.

Yesterday they even had a replay of Remco going off the road. I mean FFS he's got a gold helmet on how can they miss it?

No. I would guess whether that is available depends on the host broad broadcaster, not TNT.

I genuinely think whilst yes theyre trying to maximise revenue from their biggest cycling race they have, and why wouldnt they.
Because that is at the cost of what they have consistently promoted as their offer

and the fans claimed to have liked the quad view thing,
Not the impression I have had from the small bit of feedback I had seen.

I would suggest that if they had dropped the quad-screen instead, no-one would have objected.

Did Orla just refer to the 'Giro de France'???

What she definitely said was that there would be commentary throughout. So not dropping out on the quad-screen option during ad-breaks?

And she claimed the quad-screen as something that they "have put together", so my assumption above about that being down to the picture providers may be wrong.

Hmm, ads or no replays/no interviews/lot of redundant camera shots. What to go with? Here's my plan :- multi-screen till 30 kms to go then switch over to the ad-ridden coverage. Hopefully they will have had the last ad.

„Couldn‘t be more bitter for Pascal Ackermann“ Robert Bengsch on German ES

Well, I doubt Ackermann hates his teammate as much. Didn‘t even comment on Stewart winning, just about how he might usurp Ackermann. What horrible attitude and behaviour. Doubled down on it being horrible for Ackermann like a billion times as well
Bengsch is crazily and unhealthy obsessed with all things german its really disturbing actually... cant listen to german feed when hes on; should rly be working for ARD w that attitude of his
