Why are we surprised that Tao deleted the tweet - It's embarrassing when you make such silly tweets.

I don't see what they should be embarrassed. What was said was absolutely spot on.

I expect the teams PR department are starting to come down on any public airing of the riders thoughts before the new sponsors come on board. They want to make sure that they tow the party line.

I hope Kirby saw the tweet or has been told about it. His ego could do with a knock or two. It will be interesting to see what his reaction to the riders concerned is in the future

Of course the team should come down hard on such tweets - The strangest thing is, I watched the stage and can't remember that statement by Kirby that was referenced by Tao - Maybe i zoned out at the time.

Zoning out is probably why you don't think that he is that bad!

Kirby's strength is calling the end of races - He has a good feel for a finish and painting an interesting narrative.

Commentator's curse (Quigley): "great bike handing by the cyclocross world champion!" (Cyclocross world champion then promptly faceplants).

I know I annoy people with my Kirby idolatry, but I cannot help but say he called a perfect ending to De Ronde. No one scripts endings to sports events, especially when the winner is relatively unknown.
Carlton Kirby did a fantastic job.

When something exciting happens Kirby gets excited. Too few announcers do so.

My swedish broadcast did`t work so I had to watch and listen to the british commentators. Absolutely terrible. Feel sorry for all of Great Britain.

The entire country is in mourning, but no doubt everyone appreciates your concern.
It was a very dark day indeed, but if not for the support of others, it is hard to imagine how people could cope.
Thank you.

The Eurosport ones (Kirby/Quigley/Stephens/Kelly) or the world feed ones (Rob Hatch & Rob Hayles)?

Kirby doing a great job today at displaying why he is completely inept at commentating.

How many times did he refer to Pojacar as Dan Martin?

Well to be honest, here's another stream with different commentators:

Result was the same :)

Yabbut Carlton Kirby did it first! Carlton is inept! Carlton knows nothing about cycling!
Sigh.
Im genuinely curious to know how the commentators get their information. I am assuming they get it from the tv screen and race radio. Otherwise it would be very difficult to identify a rider when you can t see their race number. If so, someone else is screwing up. But that is ok. We are human beings who make mistakes. If you put a boatload of money on Martin winning the race and were just listening to commentary alone, I could see why someone would be pissed to learn another rider won the race. That would suck; but what sucks even more is people throwing hissy fits about something that is completely inconsequential.

Pogacars moment of glory robbed by this buffoon
Hopefully Kirby went back to the hotel in shame and apologizes

How embarrassing for you - The Cycling News live Commentary referred to Pogacar as Martin - Expect you to criticise Cycling News.

Yeah, years from now Pogacars grandchildren will be sitting on his lap and asking with baited breath what it felt like to win the race.
Pogacar will take a swig from the bottle and reply: I don't know. Carlton Kirby ruined everything.

How did he rob Pogacar of glory? Pogacar didn't even win the stage!! And even if he did I am quite sure that Pogacar would not have been even remotely upset that a commentator he has no knowledge of called another riders name.

And in Kirby defence, he was not alone in thinking it was Dan Martin. Brian Smith called Martin a few times and even the on screen graphics from official broadcaster listed Martin.

I am not Kirby biggest fan but to say that he should be ashamed is a bit of an over reaction.

He still calls a finish better than anyone even though it sometimes sounds like a greyhound race commentary. I like it when someone has attacked and he's still talking about an ice cream he just had or a meal from the night before. Actually I don't mind him with Kelly especially when Sean has no response and gives him the silent treatment but they are so different that it kinda works. Backstedt and Harmon together, used to be good back in the day. Rob Hatch is kind of annoying sometimes. Brian Smith is pretty good.

Generally it’s when a Sky rider does something, often when it’s not exciting he still gets excited. Understandably he has to play the British rider card but he does become insufferable at times with love for Mother Britain.

Kirby is excited with any British rider, not just Sky riders - Though it's not unusual for commentators to lean towards performers from their own country.

I believe they are in a pokey little studio in Twickenham, well outside the broadcast range of race radio. TV pictures plus whatever gets posted on twitter, and the course info from the race's website or possibly the road book if made available.

For the reasons above, impractical at best.

I have reached the conclusion that Thomas Bay and Jesper Worre has been living under a rock. Somehow they missed the Archbold to Bora news.

I don't think Bay is living under a rock. A bit embarrassing that he had missed this news item but he is usually very well-informed.
