After an hour of Kirby's non-sequiturs and general ignorance doing my head in, I stupidly gave ITV4 a try.

I was sure they wouldn't dare use Liggett and Sherwin this year, but of course they are, so Kirby it is for now.

Got to find me some alternate feeds!

Yeah it's kelly with Kirby. Did harmon get sacked? Note he said he was freelancing following tour of turkey but back for tour. Though he hardly featured in the Classics. Did he think he'd become a personality or something?

His business partner tweeted he's being treated for depression.

I do like him when talking about football but I was hoping that James Richardson would have been finally bumped from the British Eurosport coverage. He hasn't got a scooby. Apparently Cav rides for Quickstep Omega Pharma..?

God, I know. As soon as P&P came on I turned back to ES and pressed mute. What kind of criteria are the idiots who award the commentary contracts using?

The tv network should provide an option not to listen to commentary. Love how kirby pretends to have got a tweet on a subject (eg Corsican flag) just as the pre-arranged tour images and script is due to be guffed out.

Back on the Astra days you could do exactly that. Eurosport had a French, English, German and no commentary option.

Yes I remember watching German football on our sky astra dish with commentary off but crowd noise intact. So much technology could be used in the right ways in cycling.

I actually thought Kirby did well today, he got the information from the finish to us quickly as it happened. It was totally chaotic to commentate on let alone for the riders but I thought he did a decent job of making the best out of a terrible last 10k's.

Carlton's best bits are in the face of adversity when he doesn't have the time to think up crap puns and use his stock phrases.

Other than the bit at the end when he got over excited about a OPQS rider chancing it at 600 meters(and getting their name wrong) I have no problem with whoever commentated on todays race on Eurosport.

Yes, I slated him early on in the coverage but he did much better when the real action started. Fingers crossed he will continue to grow into the role.

Well Kirby has only had the last 10 years to do that !!

Sean Kelly must be sitting counting his euros as he is getting paid to say 2 sentences an hour.....easy money or what !!

After seeing the ITV 4 highlights last night I actually wish Kirby had Boardman with him instead of Kelly. He has much better input.

Also Phil Liggett was terrible. Kirby made that sprint at the end exciting, Liggett just talked over it unenthusiastically. Him and Sean Kelly would be perfect together.

New to watching Eurosport. I was thinking Kelly would be happy just watching his monitor and not saying a word. Sure he needs to correct Kirby, but at least Kirby gets him talking.

Anyone see the ES interviewer ask i think Kim Andersen it was, what he thinks about tomorrows "mountain stage" lol.

Yeah.

She was doing the interviews last year for Eurosport. I remember Harmon talking about her back then and said she is well known among the riders in the peloton from her reporting on other races. Strange to ask a question like that when you are meant to be so knowledgeable of the sport.

Pretty sure Liggett ID'd EBH as Peter Kennaugh in the sprint.

Liggett ID'd Bakelants as completely the wrong guy today as well, right up until he was confirmed in the timings. To be fair Kirby on Eurosport didn't ID him either and just referred to him as a Radioshack rider. Not sure which is better.

In vague defence, both were relying on the graphics which said Irizar from the moment that escape formed.
