Kelly was on great name and sentence-mangling form yesterday, including the "Patersberg" and this gem "For a Belgium to get top 3 in this race is major importance". I don't care to be honest - he's always very insightful and he cuts Kirby's more ridiculous remarks to pieces, often without Kirby realising it.

Years ago Stephen Roche was asked on TV how he and Kelly got on in Europe with the language differences. He replied that thanks to his broken French and Kelly's broken English they got on fine :D

Does anyone else think Kirby doesn't like Backstedt? During Pais Vasco MB has been ready to get into a story or something and Kirby has cut him off. I don't remember Kirby doing it so often or blatantly or even just unwittingly with his other pundits.

I'd probably put it down to banter, unless it follows MB correcting him about something.

Yesterday's nonsense about which Yates was which was compounded by viewers trying to help the 'professional' commentator out by pointing out they wore different sock colours. This was news to Carlton. Unfortunately the helpful viewer said Simon wore dark socks when I think it is the other way round.

There was a bit in Pro Cycling mentioning this when both were interviewed that I think I have recycled, but it's also mentioned at the end of the article here:

I wouldn't say it's fake, I'd just say it's a swedish accent with very good and well spoken english.

Found a little problem with (one of) the Danish guys:
Constantly referring to the Henaos as 'brothers'.
Sure, I know it's nothing major, he's at least able to identify them correctly, but it's just a quick googling to find out that they aren't actually brothers.

Which reminds me of the time Kirby didn't realise that Sky had two Henaos - this was at the time that Sky were resting Sergio. Kirby was completely baffled how he could be racing.

Agree on all the other quotes. My favourite bit was towards the end when he spotted a Movistar rider coming up the climb behind Sagan et al and is convinced that it is Jasha Sutterlin! He had been commenting all day with Erviti in the break and who had just been passed by the others so why suddenly does he think it is Sutterlin?
yeah the guy is on all kinds of drugs and clearly suffers from various braindisorders. and the funny thing it gets worse literally every day

Cycling News, who do not have the excuse of live improvisation, has frequently reported the exploits of the "Jense Van Rensburg brothers".

I wouldn't say he doesn't like Backstedt, but I totally get what you're saying. He definitely cuts off Backstedt and it's annoying as hell. I only recently came across the eurosport feed, and my impression is that Kirby is new to the sport. He reminds of a kid who just discovered cycling and is about to wet his pants with excitement when something interesting is happening.
e.g. Some no-name takes a flyer 40 km's from the finish, and he's like "Ohhh, Sean! Do you think he's gonna make it?!"
I think it's hilarious, especially when I'm waiting for the two-three second gap while Sean tries to compose himself before saying "No. He's not going to win the effing race, you bleepin' idiot."
Funny stuff.
I really enjoy his commentary, especially the way he lights up in the finale of a stage.
Top stuff.

I rarely watch british Eurosport, but I agree. I enjoy listening to Kirby for some strange reason.

I've a feeling he yet again muddled the Henao cousins just now when Seb came over the line.

Hopefully he didn't confuse them for each other!

Danish guy once again called them brothers...

Well as Sebastian came over the line he made some remark about how it would affect the GC... as Seb was over 9m down, would have been irrelevant unless he yet again thought Seb was Sergio.
