Reckon you are obsessed with Kirby's commentary

Not really. It's just that I tuned in for the last 7km today and found more things annoying in his few minutes of commentary than I have found annoying in all the other sports commentary I've heard so far in 2016. People defend Kirby as juggling names, events, strategy and so on and adding excitement to sprint finishes, and I agree it's a tough job and he does add some excitement in sprints, but I would suggest Formula One commentators do the same sort of thing for the same sort of time and manage not to come across as clueless about their sport or unprofessionally fixated on the fortunes of dark horses and rank outsiders.

Kirby is the worst sport commentator in history! He clearly knows very little about cycling, Alephillipe winning the tour? If he were a politician he'd be taken to court for misleading the public, I love Matt Stephens on GCN but he's just as bad, but he does know that Kirby is bad he usually interrupts Kirby when he's saying stupid things and talking about meat, he doesn't animate the sprint and he uses innuendo and paraphrasing too much describing sprinters as 'quick men' is ok but not every single time he's talking about a sprint, he's awful. He just keeps on shouting 5k from the finish which is annoying rather than animating, him saying any old thing that comes in to his head is running very thin as well as following every sentence with 'I'll be bound'. That's my tirade over hope you agree

Every time he got a chance today Kirby talked about Allaphillipe ...his new obsession
He was asked about Adam Yates but he answered to talk about Allaphillipe and how he was lucky to get sick as it spared him racing!!!

The man is a joke...he is full of sh** and loves how 'clever' he thinks he is ..

I wish they would take him off the air and put on someone intelligent and who knows about cycling. and is not obsessed to the point of being painful to listen to....

It is an obsession - I never realised Reichenbach was the only rider called during the coverage - Need to check the replay.

I continue to reject the idea posting a couple of particularly jarring comments out of about 50 counts as an "obsession". I'd have to google him to remind myself what he looks like.

Everyone complaining about Kirby (in the UK) does know that other channels are available, right?
Oh wow aren't you very Whitty, there is one channel on which to watch the cycling and there's a bumbling buffoon on there who can't string a sentence together without either an awkward laugh, saying I'll be bound or having an orgasm over how good Riechenbach is (when he never impresses) so yeh aren't you whitty

ITV4 broadcasted today's stage.

And that's not how you spell witty.

I thought they only do highlights for this and the vuelta?

Live today & tomorrow at 12.30pm

I will count how many riders Kirby and Stephens actually mention in commentary - I suspect it will be more than 50 riders but certain some will still mention the word obsession.

I'll also do the same exercise for Stage 1 of the Suisse with different commentators.

ITV did live Dauphine coverage last year too. They also obviously do the main British races like Yorkshire and ToB.

They also understand what a highlights programme is, not simply cutting and pasting the last hour of the race, but editing and analysis. I can't imagine why anyone who missed live coverage last week would have watched Eurosport's evening programme rather than ITV4's.
