Something MB said earlier had me perplexed - he suggested (referring specificallly to CCC Polsat and also to Sky) that the UCI demands teams have a certain quota of riders from the home country, though he used the word 'majority'. Is this correct? Tinkoff only have 3 Russian riders for example.

It must be a fairly new rule: until recently there were many teams that were Italian in every possible measure except place of registration, which was Ireland.

I think it's actually an old rule. I think the quota used to be something like 40% of riders had to be from the team's country of registration.

Edit: had a look around, and indeed, the majority does apply to continental teams

Edit:2

2.15.051 The nationality of the UCI ProTeam is determined, at the UCI ProTeam’s choice, by:
1) The country of the registered office of the paying agent; or
2) The country of the registered office of the holder of the licence; or
3) A country where a product or service is marketed by the or a main sponsor under the name of
the UCI ProTeam or of a component of this name.

2.16.007 The nationality of a UCI professional continental team is determined, at the team’s discretion, by:
1) The country of the registered office of the paying agent, or
2) A country where a product or service of a principal partner is marketed under the name of
the UCI professional continental team or of an element of that name

2.17.006 for women's or men conti teams

cheers for looking that up - that's basically what I thought - that it was something that applied to Continental teams, rather than the top two tiers. If it only applies to Continental level, then Pro Conti and World Tour/Pro Tour teams can be registered in whatever country they like and it would have no bearing on rider quotas.

The women's Ride London Grand Prix is live on Eurosport Saturday.

Good to see more coverage.

Will the Lemond show continue in the future?

It is horrible. He just isn't a good speaker, plus he seems clueless about the current peloton. I feel embarrassed for him.

Yeah, he seems to not really get where he's supposed to speak and when not to, luckily his co presenter seems adept enough to work around this.

I thought it was quite funny when Greg and Jens Voigt where checking their schedules to dertermine when and where they could go fishing together. Like, who cares about the ongoing time trial ... :D

I can't bear Carlton now....Didn't mind him too much when he first started as he had some semblance of modesty & restraint

But now...the endless speaking as if he knows (for certain) what the riders are thinking/saying in the peloton, the inept and ridiculous speculation of motives...the over the top flowery language most of it incorrectly applied....the lack of understanding of race tactics, the endless overused phrases like 'the line beckons, in his pomp, relay back on, having his fun, business end of the day , against the horning, 'so there you have it', etc'

the fixation on one rider on any day or race to the point of obsession and where all others and the progress of the race as it unveils are ignored especially if contrary to his latest theory or prediction

The constant need to create drama especially around all the dangerous thing the he predicts with relish that will happen....How difficult and dangerous every piece of road, whether flat, mountain, uphill, down hill, dry , raining or snowing and how some terrible disaster is just around the corner ...how its all going to be terrible !!!

But most of all the lack of ability to follow the race , name the riders correctly and have any understanding of what is happening before his eyes because he is off on one

The problem I find with CC is that if the online graphics don't explain what's going on, he's not likely to either. I find myself having to watch for 20 mins or so waiting just to find out who is in the front group, who is inbetween and who is chasing. Yesterday I may have imagined it but they seemed to be suggesting that the leaders group could still get some of the bonus seconds, ignoring the guys who were not that far behind van Keirsbulck.I just feel like every race he is commentating on it's as if the actual race itself is secondary to his particular conversational focus. Coupled with Brian Smith's verbal tick 'as I said' when he had said no such thing, I find myself constantly asking 'what did I miss??'

This, this - 100 times this. It drives me up the wall - he clearly has no idea what the riders are saying or thinking, and yet he does it all the time. And I'm really unsure of where the phrase 'relay back on' came from - I don't tend to hear other commentators use it. He annoyed me so much during the TdF I resorted to listening to Phil and Paul

Damn, this post belongs into the Hall of Fame of posts! So true, every single word.
