I much prefer ITV4 and Millar and Boulton stick to the task.

It's not his fault, but I find it very tedious to listen to Sean Kelly, unpleasant even (the Irish dialect, I know, it's a subjective view). He also seems to just repeat whatever Kirby invites him to say.

Haha, that's so true. I have never ever heard Kelly saying "no, I don't think so".
His best moment was Giro 2011 ITT. He spent the whole time AC was on repeating that he is suffering.

I think that the simple fact that Millar's been a pro much more recently than Kelly makes his opinion more interesting and relevant.

Did Kirby ever apologise for claiming Alaphilippe was a favourite for the Tour?

Kirby.stated that the French press wrote of Alaphalippe as a top 10 chance in the tour, which was quickly shot down by Kelly.

There is a thread for Eurosport commentary

Actually, during the Tour of California, Kirby said he was something like "many people's favourite".

Kirby is regurgitating the French press in regards to Alaphalippe. Call Kirby out for his silly comment about Sagan riding the RR at the Olympics when in fact he is riding the mountain bike race.

Every stage is being covered live and in full next year isn't it?

I heard this mentioned a few weeks ago but I've been unable to find any proof that it'll happen. There does seem to be a year to year increase on the numbers of stages shown in full though, 6 this year.

Cheers, not set in stone yet though. Even if it comes off then it won't mean Eurosport will buy it in, depends on advertising revenue I guess.

Everyone has their own taste but Sean Kelly is a legend and his sense of humour is great...I find his (mis) pronunciations endearing especially Heano & Izagirre

He does not always agree with Kirby. In fact if you listen he appears to agree but then ends up saying the opposite. He is a smart man

I love Sean but can't can't stand Millar ...his tone is annoying and condescending and very repeatitive ....He talks down to viewers. And he is holier than thou

My favouite pairing would be Boulton & Kelly

Looks like nothing on Eurosport between San Sebastian and the Vuelta?

Thankfully, The Bike Channel is showing Burgos live

UK appears to be showing Dwars door het Hageland on 5 August. I really struggle to watch anything on Bike channel as the quality is so poor.

"When you can see the rain it really is raining" - Carlton Kirby

Silly, but true. Most times on TV you can only tell it's raining 'cos people are getting wet. It's a bit like Donald Rumsfeld's 'Known Knowns' speech - silly, but not wrong.

Is it just me or has Sean Kelly been making a lot of jokes this TDF? :D

I like it.

Kelly is about as funny as a kick in the nuts.
Carlton and Kelly are a terrible combo. One tries to infuse a bit of humour* and lighthearted banter; the other knows nothing other than bike racing tactics.
The results are as intellectually stimulating as dry toast.
One gets the impression they part ways the minute the camera is turned off.

*Term used loosely.

Really glad to have Eurosport on the TV. Whether Kirby and co are bad, they are much better than Bike's picture quality and BBC's commentry team. However Bike's solo commentator at Burgos (Matt Rendall) was awful. The olympic commentry team at the BBC is terrible. They were struggling to recognise riders when the style was reasonably recognisable. I'm not the best at recognising riders, but I did a better job than them. Especially when it says Alaphillipe on the screen and they are saying it's Bardet (It was Alaphillipe, not just a wrong graphic). Boardman is the annalist for ITV at the Tour and Vuelta, so he should know who all the big name riders are. Granted, he was replaced during the tour this year by Voigt because of family related reason, but he should be better than he was in the Road Races.

However, it is much improved for the Track.

Brian Smith is good, but he isn't "Eurosport's" Brian Smith. They are all freelances who work for whoever will use their services.

I don't have a problem with Simon Brotherton. If Kirby had been commentating on the mens' TP last night he would either have expired through hyper-ventilation or gone up into such a high register that only dogs would have been able to hear him.

Matt Rendell did struggle at times in Burgos but he's a writer and interviewer and was working alone. I suspect they just asked him to do it because he was going anyway.
