Perhaps one of our Spanish speaking members would verify this Babelfish translation - Google Translate wasn't clear. Contador just got back from his vacation in Mallorca (if you read the previous link, you know that he only goes away on vacation for a week because Macarena has a job). Tuesday a town dedicates a statue to him. But Josu Garai did a quick interview, and was the first I've seen to ask Alberto if Zomegnana was right about him riding the Giro next year. Below was his quiet response.

Según el director del Giro, Angelo Zomegnan, el madrileño será de la partida el año que viene, aunque Contador desmiente que ya haya un acuerdo definitivo.

According to the director of Giro, Angelo Zomegnan, the Madrilenian will be of the game next year, although Accountant (Contador) denies that already there is a definitive agreement.

Not too bad from Babelfish. This is a more accurate rendition:

Thanks. It's one of those things that will probably not make it into the news in English, but it removes a lot of the questions I had about how much of 2011 he has planned, like choice of teams, etc.

Zomegnan was pretty specific when he said the deal had just been settled the prior day in Liege, so I was drawn offsides (American football term). I might be going homeless before the TdF starts, so any information I don't have by then, I won't have. I can't afford patience. Cheers

Here's an interview with questions and answers about Contador's personal life.

thanks for the link-there are very interesting aspects of AC explained in the article. BTW the Giro participation dilemma-from what I read-the innuendo begun with SIDI asking him if he could race it this year, since the brand celebrates its 50th anniversary-he declined it since his race schedule was already established-although he has said publicly his desire to race the Giro again-possibly next year in his bid for a double GT win. Zomegnan is of course, deeply interested in bring him back to the race & he is selling the story to generate more interest & perhaps make the Schleck Bros & another non-Italian big names start taking the race more seriously than a mere training for the TDF. AC nowadays knows by experience that nothing is guaranteed in cycling, and therefore he's not ready to commit to anything a year in advance, even if the reward is tempting/lucrative/challenging....

Bruyneel allowed that he’d spoken with Contador recently, on the flight back to the mainland from Criterium Internationale.

“He came and sat next to me on the plane,” Bruyneel revealed. Amid questions about how that felt, he quickly reassured, “No, it was fine, it was good. He was happy with the team and the way it worked out.” But he also corrected a reporter asking about “Contador’s team” by reminding him, “It’s not his team; it’s Vinokourov’s team,” and adding later in an almost confessional tone, “I don’t know what (Alberto’s) future is going to be.”

It's not a big news flash or anything, but Contador spoke to Eurosport and said that he won't ride the Spanish National Road Race Championship because the course is flat and usually dangerous, but he will most probably defend as Time Trial Champion.

http://es.eurosport.yahoo.com/17052010/47/contador-estara-campeonatos-espana.html

Does anyone get Pro Cycling? Was there anything interesting in the cover story?

Also, in case you didn't check out my recent addition to the A Plea For Integrity thread, Diane Pucin of the LA Times (and five other publications) wrote another love letter article to Lance. In it, she not only cut up a Contador quote and pieced it back together like a ransom note, but also moved the misquote from a post-Tour press conference in Spain back three weeks to the day Lance went with Columbia in the wind and pulled ahead of Alberto. She claims he was "seething" when he said it. All the info is in the other thread.

I thought it was a very humble approach but Contador. Shows what genuine person he is. Bruyneel or Lance never would have behaved like this. This is how Alberto has killed Lance. By being himself. By being a true champion.

Thanks for the link, adds to the perspective.
I agree with what you're saying about Contador. I think (having had 24 hours to forget what my point might have been, if I had one) that I was questionning whether or not the encounter and conversation had even taken place, basically doubtful of Bruyneel. But the full story is too extensive to be a fabrication, in my current opinion.

Fact is, I jumped on something without thinking about it, which is ironic since I had recently chided someone on this thread for a similar thing!
I need to get out on the bike more often:rolleyes:

The thing I've learned from reading tons of old articles and things, and that's buried by all the propaganda, is that Contador seems to be a really decent human being. In that excellent Cycle Sport interview after the Tour, he had a chance to give Lance hell, but he wouldn't say anything about him. At the Tour de France course unveiling, he walked up and shook hands with Lance, because that's what he does. Lance pulled all that crap in the press, slinging mud at Alberto and denigrating him and the Spanish press, and Contador never even saw most of it, and about what he did hear, he said he placed no importance on it. I got a kick out of the video interview he did for Specialized at camp, when he was asked about it. He said that the only stuff he knew about was when someone would come up to him (AC simulates holding a paper) and said, "did you see what he said about you!?", and he laughed, and he meant the laugh. He sent Bruyneel a Christmas card. Jonathan Vaughters tweeted on New Years that Alberto had called him to wish him a Happy New Year, and described him as "a very polite boy". Martinelli said that with Pantani he never knew if he was getting through or not, but Alberto had him over to the house, and showed him his bikes, and listened to stories for hours.

And people have picked on Contador's entourage, but they're real, down to Earth people just like he is. I've read tech articles that include his mechanic,, Faustino Munoz. After the Time Trial where Contador was forced to ride the Specialized bike he had never been on until the day before, but Faustino dialed it in, Alberto got off the bike when he finished and rushed over to give him a big hug of gratitude. I'm just an unemployed fat guy in a basement apartment, but Contador's press agent exchanged e-mails with me at the time the Wheel Gate thing was solved. He said he'd back me up all day long for fighting the fight, but that on their side they just wanted to avoid polemics. I finished with something about us fans defending Alberto from the attacks if he wouldn't defend himself. (A twitter friend and I had wished he would have a moment like the one in The American President). He must have passed that along, because a few hours later, there was an interview on the Marca site, with a subtitle that I can't recall word for word, but was basically him stepping up. His Manager brother Fran would do anything for him. Alberto only goes away on vacation a week at a time because Macarena likes having a job and doesn't get much time off. He gets in trouble if he doesn't call his Mom after a race. They're just good, normal, people. And Alberto is intelligent and professional.

Here's your reward for reading all that. I just went to the Specialized site. They have a contest where you pick either Alberto or Andy Schleck. You enter your name and e-mail address, and if you win, your name will be custom painted on the bike they ride at the Tour de France.

http://iamspecialized.com/inittowinit/

I just went back & checked the rules. There will be a total of 500 winners, I believe divided between the two, and those will be divided between the 21 stages.

That's the sense I get from the many interviews as well, he seems very down to earth.

I'd love to join that competition, but my name doesn't pass their word filter. :( ...I got this message "keep it clean, folks"

Some of us have been pleading with Alberto to add closed captioning or subtitles to his videos. He came through almost immediately with the one of Faustino Munoz assembling the Specialized Paris Roubaix bike. I was just at youtube and noticed that English has been added to the video about the 1900 kilometer road trip to Liege.

Thank you. I'm unemployed because someone let their car skid backwards and sideways across five lanes of Interstate highway and crash into mine n an on ramp. I have nothing but free time (and two college degrees). I spend a few minutes each day looking for Contador news because I'm a fan. Stories are rare, and most don't make it into the English press. If I find a link I think might interest other fans, I take two minutes to post it here.

I'm not sure how posting an interview or video link as a courtesy to others is something I should be chastised for. Pr...please add me to your ignore list. You're definitely on mine. I came here to share information. You came here to attack me personally. ****** off.

What is the status of the TT bike Contador will use at Le Tour? Have they re-designed the Shiv?

Also, hope that the accident you were unfortunately part of won't have any repercussions on your health.

He's been riding the new Shiv (revised further to meet UCI regulations) since I believe Paris-Nice. Saxo Bank and Astana have used them in the Giro, and Saxo will use them at Tour of California.

Ah. Thanks. I didn't know how long it would take to modify the problematic design.

Dude you take it all so seriously, and seem to get quite upset when disagreed with, I can't see how it's worthit. Wasn'tan attack.

As for ignore list - so F***** what? Why don't you use it with out all the big announcements. Personally I've used it on one poster in 8 years. Dissenting opinions aren't that big a deal.

I personally appreciate his efforts. Why blast the guy when he is making a positive (IMO) contribution to the forum? If you don't appreciate what he's bringing to the table just ignore him. Why spoil it for the rest of us?
