No one has ever accused Alberto of not being duplicitous lol.

Polish... I started to really like your posts the last six months. They were sharp and tongue in cheek. But as soon as it changes to a certain two riders it becomes vitriolic.

Not my business, but I would think about that. ;)

Agreed. There were a number of factors this year (i) Contador didn't expect to be riding the tour initially, and probably trained to peak for the Giro and the Giro alone; (ii) it was a tougher than usual Giro; (iii) he was injured, probably more if I think about it.

Hardly surprising he's not planning to do the Vuelta this year.

I think he'll want to win the Tour again, but it won't be long before he starts to think about the double and even the treble.

it's a normal decision.but he will race it at least once again i'm sure.

in 2012 tour he will be converbier all over again, slaughtering the competition.
rujanito you're free to win il giro, please no more strade bianche

It's sad that the best GT rider doesn't want to ride the most interesting of the GTs, it's some kind of undervaluation of Giro, but on the other hand imo the domination he showed in this year's Giro wasn't that good for the epicness of the race at all - we've had an epic route, but haven't seen an epic battle. This race can be great no matter with or without the likes of Contador.

Alberto certainly enjoyed winning the Giro and even though he did it with ease it contributed to him losing the Tour and he is not used to losing.
Next Tour he will be 100% ready (belly of anger and all that).

It may not be such bad news for the Giro because his superiority this year made it predictable or even boring.

But it is really bad news for the Schlecks.

And he may try Tour-Vuelta double.

Still, at least we now know that his bad knee excuse was bullsh*t.
Very disappointed with his decision, but it is understandable.
Perhaps it is fitting that Marco Pantani remain the last double winner, for the foreseeable future.

He may be trying to say that he won't ride the Giro again in the same year he prepares the TDF, I would be surprised of the opposite, even in the case he doesn't ride the Giro again he should be quiet about that, Italians fans has a lot respect repect for him.

Good decision.

I think that he will be back next year in TDF better than ever. I hate wishing my life away but cannot wait for 2012.

Most translations in cycling sites are absolutely atrocious.
Sort of what I mean: noone speaks like that and it's amusing. Unless you mean they're inaccurate which is obv. just bad.

Contador doesn't like losing, particularly when he really tried to win, and particularly to Schlecks. Losing the stage to Rolland had to **** him off something terrible. He probably still thought he could make the podium on the last day, or at least win the TT stage. He's not happy with 5th place and no stage wins, however he tries to pretend otherwise publicly, and however much he knows he couldn't have tried more. On top of it, he may have to wait 2 years to redeem himself ...

Yeah, usually they just don't sound natural, but every now and then you see translations that convey the opposite of what the original meant.

PS: Cyclingnews guys, if you're hiring and want my CV...

I don´t think we should not make too much attention to this, it was said with emotions and AC probably meant he would never race Giro before TdF, I am almost certain that he will race it again in some point of his career, he has too many years left
but what it surely means that Alberto wants to get to at least 5 or 6 TdF wins and that´s his main objective right now, also sholud be a good news for the Vuelta organizers, AC definately plans TdF/Vuelta double soon

Perhaps when he's not good enough anymore for the Tour victory he'll do the Giro again. But as long as he can win the Tour with 2 fingers in his nose, I wouldn't count on it. I rather see him do the Vuelta anyway. Would have loved if he skipped the Tour this year for the Vuelta, but I understand why he tried(plus he's not certain he can start the Vuelta).

BAD news for the competition. Kinda sad that he says he will never race the Giro again, though. I have somewhat loved the way he tackled the all-around program of his.

Bang!

This is an immediate reaction after the Tour. I think its possible he could change his mind.

Here he says Giro-Tour double is not impossible and stresses he got a warm welcome when Tour went to Italy. Doesn't fit with "I'll never race the Giro again", it's weird he said it this way.
