actually, I'd say that's one of the brilliant things about human beings: we have the ability to have complex, nuanced opinions about people and things that aren't limited to being black and white, love him or hate him (or be neutral about him). it's quite possible to like certain things about a person and dislike others. is this news?

Contador isn't an exception, regardless of your personal opinion of him.

I understand that. But there is a difference between "just disliking" some things and hating a lot of things. If you hate 95 per cent of someone, hate the other 5 per cent as well.

I happen to come across this. you might recognize some of the symptoms

Intense personal attitudes towards celebrities, however, reflect traits of neuroticism. The most extreme descriptions of celebrity worship exhibit borderline pathological behavior and traits of psychoticism. This type of celebrity worship may involve empathy with a celebrity’s failures and successes, obsessions with the details of a celebrity’s life, and over-identification with the celebrity."http://psychology.about.com/b/2009/09/01/the-psychology-behind-celebrity-worship.htm

After Alberto lost the 2011 TdF, missed the podium even - he said he would never race the Giro again. Waa. Was he asked during the interview if he would race the Giro again? Did he change his mind? Will he be there in 2013? Although to be honest, I hope he races the Amgen Tour of California instead fingers crossed.

Maybe he'll race the Giro, depends on ASO...

If he wants to win the tour he might want to stay away from a race of which riders have tended to underperform at the tour in recent years.

Quite funny for a race which touts itself as ultimate preperation for the tour.

FWIW, I think it was right he was banned. There was stuff in his system; there shouldn't have been. He broke the rules.

Having said that, I'm ambivalent on the subject of the interview. Why not? Every time I see the 'hero' Merckx on the telly, I wince. And everyone like a bad boy, no?
