Meh. The guy has already won so much I'n terms of itt. Even without the extra work he can still do a great itt ( afterall a bronze ain't too shabby ) . Maybe the risk , even if it isn't a likely outcome appeals more to a man with his career.

it would help him on the hilly monuments+ tough world champs courses of the next few years.

All I can say is, I hope you guys are right. I thought he already had his power/weight ratio pretty well dialed in for the classics, even the hillier ones, but maybe there is method to the madness.
 
I know Canc has lost a few TTs to Martin this year but if my memory serves me correctly isn't thay 3 ITT in a row Wiggans has beaten him at? Worlds, Vuelta and the German race which name escapes me.

Have to say, I was surprised by Wiggins, too. Seeing him on the podium with Martin and Cancellara . . . . But chapeau to him!
 
What a race! Guess Ignatiev got the surprise of his life today, not so much that he got passed (after all the moto had already passed him, giving him a bit of a warning) but who he was passed by.

Even though the Danish commentators (I think it was Rolf) claimed that he was wondering if he got overtaken by a motorbike I think it was probably more like: "Oh... here comes Mill... wait a sec! That's not the British! This is GERMAN! THIS IS TONY MARTIN! :eek: " (Or... something like that.)

I just came home from the city hall square, and just wow! It was so surreal to see the greatest of cyclists riding in little old Copenhagen. The medalists walked right by me on the way to the podium! Had it not been for the wind I would have been able to smell the sweat in Cancellaras hair! He looked really ****ed, and much smaller in reality than on TV. Wiggins looked incredibly skinny, it is amazing that he is able to go so fast being so thin. Tony Martin looked like a roman emperor on the podium, much unlike the koi fish expression he wore on his face out on the route. Congratulations all!

Since I saw the race on a screen at the finish line area I wasn't able to follow that well. It seemed that Cancellara had some problems in the turns. Would he have done better if he had recced the route, or was it just because he had to take chances if he wanted silver?

Anyway a great day in Copenhagen. The weather even kept dry!

Best part is that Tony Martin won on our Jet 9 and Jet Stallion disc ....... yep, clinchers just won the world TT title

So he could have gone even faster on tubs! Amazing ride.

Terrific young ridets are needing all the support they can get...

Great TT by Martin...I think he is very deserving this year.

I love the fact that they have a world champion amonsgt their midst now. Michael Rogers was the last I think, back in the glory days.

Basically, the commissaires objected to his handlebar, saying it didn't match the new rules about width and length ("3:1 rule"). He put on handlebar tape until the commissaires were satisfied, and went to the start (and nearly fell off the ramp - who can blame him). But during the hour or so Mengis was out there, the UCI nitwits changed their mind and disqualified him after he finished.
That's outrageous.

I'm OK with rules being implemented, and also with commissaires being strict on them - even with this particular rule that seems to be pretty arbitrary.
But when you give the rider the green light to start, he should be allowed to stay in the results.
We're not talking about one of the top contenders (or even contenders) here, but about a rider to whom just riding here is the highlight of his career. He was going to finish in the bottom-10 anyway. What good did disqualifying him do?

I saw an Eritrean rider (most probably Mengis, he was on a TT bike) training on the course in the morning with a 2010 Team Type 1 jacket (he must have gotten that as a gift or something from TT1 in last year's Tour of Rwanda). If they can't even afford team jackets, why should they buy a new handlebar if the old one isn't broken?

Mengis came to Copenhagen to ride a bike and do a good time (for him). And I think he did that. Why do some UCI commissaires have to mess it up and destroy this great experience for him?
Couldn't they check the bike earlier than they did, so there's time to make changes if necessary?
Or if they're so ambitious about globalising cycling, why not support these exotic nations with a few bikes?
