I assume that critical just means in intensive care in this context, that's one thing that always gets reported in pretty much every country. It could be a difference in classifying critical cases.

Spoken like a true Leftist. Lol. I thought you're the party that preaches equality, tolerance & free speech? Lol. Liberals are always preaching how they are the party of tolerance. You only tolerate differences if those differences aren't political!Ronnie needs to admit to either being as dumb as a box of rocks, or a liar...those are the only two options.
Lol. Literally no one cares what Rand Paul thinks about covid or vaccine passports. There was an article in WaPo about a focus group of the vaccine hesitant and they were in agreement that they would just fake vaccine cards to evade any limitations due to vax status. Really just the worst people in the world. If you don't want to get vaccinated , at least be willing to live with the consequences as you leech the vaccine benefits from those who get it.Spoken like a true Leftist. Lol. Sen. Johnson is merely giving his opinion from the conservative standpoint:
“For the very young, I see no reason to be pushing vaccines on people.” Johnson said. “I certainly am going to vigorously resist any kind of government use or imposing of vaccine passports … That could be a very freedom-robbing step and people need to understand these things"
I'm fed-up with this liberal BS: you're the party of power & control and against any medical freedom on the decision making aspect of the Covid vaccines.
Enough is enough!

We must resist the latest COVID-era power grab: the ‘vaccine passport’
I say enough. I urge everyone to get the vaccine if you think you need or want it. And then I urge everyone in America to throw away their masks, demand their schools be open, and live your lives f…www.google.com
"I'm also in favor of people making their own medical and personal decisions."
"This makes the idea of a vaccine passport - which is a terrible idea for freedom - a simply poor idea overall, as it should have no impact on anyone."
"If you are vaccinated, you don't have to worry if a small segment of the population is not"
"We can't let government tyrants and media fearmongers push us into accepting this terrible idea that we need their permission to go back to our lives."
"I know for a fact, they want to keep this power. We should never have let them take it in the first place in the form of lockdowns, mandates and closings.:
"Now that we know those didn't work, and that they intend to keep pushing anti-science, anti-freedom ideas, we must resist".
"The freedom part is easy. The science part gets ignored by the media and those who seek to keep power."
It might be more like 8-10k a day and only getting worse. They are going to need more than vaccines to stop this, but those AZ vaccines collecting dust in the US shouldve been sent weeks ago.Meanwhile there is an unfolding human catastrophe in India.
India COVID: 16,946,469 Cases and 192,199 Deaths - Worldometer (worldometers.info)
332,000 newly recorded cases and 2,621 deaths on April 23 alone. Deaths follow cases so this is about to get much much worse and swamp anything seen in America or elsewhere. It looks like India was simply lucky so far. The consequences for the developed world are also very significant. International borders are at risk. This puts more pressure on vaccine rollout.
We had a combination of appointment availabilities here in Eugene - I think most working people went to the weekend ones, but there were also weekday appointments available for those who had the time. I think each area just seems to be handling things differently, which is no doubt contributing to this entire clusterfuck. Is there a way to explain to some of these places where they have vaccines that the reason they aren't getting appointments scheduled for people is because they are only doing appointments Monday through Friday when everyone is working. This is happening in Raleigh. Appt times are between 8am and 3pm Monday through Friday and they have lots of open appts. No times when people get off work and no appt times on the weekend. Apparently this is what Wake Med is doing and doesn't seem to understand most people are working during those hours.

Did your hubby get his second dose this weekend, btw.? If I'm remembering correctly...
Glad to hear he had no further complications from the vaccine, hopefully things will get better for him and you!Yes, he got his second dose and didn't seem to have any real side effects from it. Unfortunately he's still sick from something unrelated to Covid. He has another appointment on Tuesday for a scan some test and meeting with the doctor and he's going to ask about a test for something else as well.
Sorry, being a legacy admission 30+ years ago to train as an opthalmologist doesn't mean much to me or anyone else. He has made it clear in the last year that he doesn't really understand infectious disease. No big surprise that he got himself infected. As someone who has taught medical students, the amount of Immunology they learn is less than an undergrad who takes a specific course in the subject even now. Paul would've been taught little back in the day. But he does have an MD, so there is that.Paul is a Duke medical school trained M.D. and is very much pro-vaccine but believes in people making their own medical decisions (something most liberals fail to understand).

About 3 in 5 Voters Would Support COVID-19 Vaccination Card Requirement
Most voters don't think coronavirus vaccines should be mandatory, but more than half support a requirement from the federal government that people who have been vaccinated carry a card with them proving as much, according to a new Morning Consult/Politico poll.morningconsult.com
35% of Democrats and 48% of Republicans believe all Americans should be able to choose whether or not to receive the Covid vaccines.
72% of Democrats would be supportive of a U.S. requirement that vaccinated people carry cards of proof of inoculation.
"Republicans go to war over vaccine passports:"
I didn't see the post that your are replying to, but I can only imagine!Sorry, being a legacy admission 30+ years ago to train as an opthalmologist doesn't mean much to me or anyone else. Vaccine passports have zero to due with 'vaccine choice'. They merely enforce that people live with the consequences of their own decisions. We are learning this week that the EU is willing to allow US travelers this summer IF they have been vaccinated. Sensible and sure to upset people like Paul.
Twitter must have agreed because its already gone.
Here is a story about the school. Should also be noted that RFKjr had spoken at this school in January. The kicker is....Twitter must have agreed because its already gone.
The Centner Academy in Miami sent an email to teachers and staff that read in part, “It is our policy, to the extent possible, not to employ anyone who has taken the experimental COVID-19 injection until further information is known.”
As bad as that is, I agree with Koronin that their reasoning is completely wacko. They believe that the vaccine in the teacher may influence the health of their students.“We’re asking them not to come back to school only because we don’t know what the side effects could be and how it could affect our student body and our population,” he said. “Because there’s so many unknowns and there’s been new information daily that’s kind of coming up and showing adverse effects and, we again, just want to err on the side of caution.”
There was an episode of Star Trek:TNG where they went to a planet where antibodies spread outside the body, but other than that, this is pure BS. Just imagine the people who teach Biology at schools like this and what they are thinking. There was a poll last week that showed that moms with children at home were the most hesitant to get vaccines. The propagation of mommy blog facebook groups that are rife with these kinds of stories is the reason IMO. Antivaxxers know how to penetrate this group by seeding doubts related to fertility, menstruation, and breast feeding. This is nearly the perfect grift because just about anyone is close to someone who has had a vaccine recently, so impossible to convince a person that these things don't happen if they already have doubts or fears about vaccination.“Tens of thousands of women all over the world have recently been reporting adverse reproductive issues simply from being in close proximity with those who have received any one of the COVID-19 injections, e.g., irregular menses, bleeding, miscarriages, post-menopausal hemorrhaging, and amenorrhea (complete loss of menstruation).
No one knows exactly what may be causing these irregularities, but it appears that those who have received the injections may be transmitting something from their bodies to those with whom they come in contact.”
There are so many things about examples like this that are alarming, full on KOOKOO, but let's just start with something really simple: people consume more harmful substances, in excess, on a daily basis. Here is a story about the school. Should also be noted that RFKjr had spoken at this school in January. The kicker is....

Yep...and that's why you and the Left are so upset with him. You have an MD who happens to be a Republican senator who, though very much pro-vaccine, advocates personal choice in medical decisions. This irks the Left to no end and shows they don't want Americans to have a choice in refusing the Covid vaccines.Sorry, being a legacy admission 30+ years ago to train as an opthalmologist doesn't mean much to me or anyone else. Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, MD, PhD, is strictly against any vaccine passports. Here's a scientist who is very impressed with the developement of the Covid vaccines and recommends people take them. However, he's for personal choice, believes tens of millions were infected and already have natural immunity not needing the vaccines, and believes passports would be bad for public health. Rand Paul isn't pro-vaccine by any definition that I am aware of. And as of a few weeks ago, he had not even gotten the COVID-19 vaccine. You have an MD who happens to be a Republican senator who, though very much pro-vaccine, advocates personal choice in medical decisions.

Dr. Bhattachary is no doubt a smart guy. But lets jump back to 2019 before SARS-COV2, he had a "weatherman" reputation (like you implied): he would say 'sunny tomorrow', and when it rained the next day he would say 'we need this moisture'. I won't completely dismiss him because he does bat about .400 which isn't bad in the majors, but he doesn't count his strike outs and pop ups, he only counts his hits, and therefore believes that he bats 1.000.Rand Paul isn't pro-vaccine by any definition that I am aware of. And as of a few weeks ago, he had not even gotten the COVID-19 vaccine.
Dr. Bhattacharya's words would have more relevance if he would ever take accountability for all the horrible takes that he has made throughout the pandemic, including this doozy just a couple months ago. But none of them ever do in any meaningful way, they just move on to the next thing. He is basically Berenson in a white lab coat.

So, Joe Rogan has weighed in on vaccination and it is not great. The exact quote is.... “If you're like 21 years old, and you say to me, should I get vaccinated? I'll go no.” The context is not much better and includes an impassioned defense of not vaccinating children at all for COVID and wondering why that is considered a controversial opinion. Of course, he also compares the risk of COVID in children to the risk of Flu, saying falsely that 22k people died from the flu last year. That number is actually from 2019-20 flu season. It should be noted that his two kids got COVID already.
He clearly appreciates the vaccines which kind of surprises me, but that probably speaks to how good they really are. When he was asked about a vaccine passport notice that he does think that people should get vaccinated if they don't have natural immunity, and the only reason he is opposed to a passport is that it might make people avoid the vaccines just to make a point. So he isn't against the passport per se, he is concerned about it reducing the number of people getting vaccinated. Plus, he clearly understands the two-yea-old mentality of some people: "If you are going to try to make me, I'm not going to do it". Obviously he would like people with documented positive cases be part of the passport.Yeah, the article he co-authored was about Indians in India. His opinion at the time was that they had already had a billion infections and the infection curve was trending down because they had reached 'herd immunity'. In that context, the natural immunity mentioned in the headline was gained through infection in a majority of people in India. I wish I had a dollar for every time one of the Barrington people said that. And yet, look at India today. That is what I was alluding to earlier this week when I suggested that all that happy talk about herd immunity in India in January might have given them a false sense of security that may have contributed to the devastation that we are seeing now. A normal person would reflect on that, I can almost guarantee that Bhattacharya will not. He will move on to the next interview, calling Fauci an anti-vaxxer and telling everybody what an amazing job DeSantis has done in Florida like the clown that he is IMO. Very good credentials, and indisputably a very smart person that sounds great in interviews, but his intentions are pretty transparent and he will absolutely not go into a situation where he is challenged in any way.
ETA. His opinion that natural immunity gives a better duration of immunity than vaccines is not well supported by any of the data.
