Coronavirus: How dangerous a threat?

The word obviously gets used all over so why not. In the United States we will never ever, can't know who got the virus. People are way way way too far apart on the spectrum. We have people flying in private jets early on the vaccine w obvious life or death importance to that set. On the other end,a group saying,no never ever will they get a vaccine, everything from mark of the beast, secret microchip, magnetic properties to a coordinated systematic population wide out after a certain number receive the vaccine. So that data looks impossible to tabulate. Then as we have seen over 15+ months, many people get it,have it and don't know..probably won't. Then the group w migraine, after work out soreness,allergies,hangovers..and dozens more. Those people get it and it passes and they never distinguish between their state of normal and Covid symptoms. ..but if the logic of the last few hundred years are our guide..like a cold or flu,diarrhea..everyone will get it to a certain degree...
I personally fear in the US..because of our population size and landmass..@6-8 months from now..a variant, obviously stronger, obviously more contagious, and probably immune to current vaccines will strike our unvaccinated people..I also think it's scary that people assume a cure will be discovered..
We have few economic reasons to share trade secrets w each other as we compete, but it's looking more and more that there are some obvious things that require world wide cooperation

Where is the reversal to the trend downward? Same with Arkansas the change is minor 100 to 200 case range per day and there is no clear reversal in the trend downward as you state in your post.
Shrugs. It is not a big increase, but AR is trending up. Cases were down to about 170 and it is around 200 now. Then there are the hospitalizations.

Are you sure about that?

DISCLAIMER: Way to much brief summarization in this post!

EDIT: I know that island nations like Samoa, Tonga, etc. have kept SC2 out, and New Zealand and Australia have done well for bigger islands, I wonder what will happen though as those places open their countries. My guess is that they will fall into the three options that I typed above (get it and die, get it and live, get vaccinated). A lot of factors will dictate what happens I guess.

To answer your question, not really but that is why I post - I know someone here can inform me ;).

On your edit, you have summarized the debate in Australia right now. One one side we have business wanting to open up. On the other many people are still fearful, especially with the situation in India. But the vaccine is finally ramping up here so I think that might bring forward the opening up.

Glad to hear you're getting more vaccine there.

What is the vax mood in Aus? If you can get 90% vax before you open to the world you will likely be able to avoid the mess of most everywhere else.

The vax mood was a bit slow but is now speeding up rapidly. A few are still jumping at shadows over the miniscule chances of getting blood clots. But I can understand this since Australia has faired very well to date so many will be complacent and think the risk of vaccination outweighs the risk of Covid-19. What will get people to vaccinate is the wish to open up and not worry any more.

Australia Covid-19 To date (World-o-meter):
Cases 30,109
Deaths 910
Currently infected: 108
Currently infected - serious or critical: 1
Population 25.8 million
Percentage of population infected: 0.11%

90% is a big ask but the population here is probably more compliant than America I'd hesitate to say. Political leaders in Aus are now saying that "there is no doubt that people who are vaccinated will have extra protections that others don’t". Sounds similar to some rules around vaccination for diseases like measles or whooping cough where kids must be vaccinated to attend day care. Good. I am personally not concerned, I have been getting flu shots every year for the past 20 years, no problems and no flu.

I take it this does include the Aboriginal Peoples?

We know the Eminent Opthalmologist and gadfly immunologist wannabe Dr/Senator Rand Paul caught Covid 'cause he said so. He also seems to know he can't get it again and won't take the vaccine. He'll wait until some people die that have had C19......He actually said that.

It really strains belief to see how much a story of 3 people being sick in the middle of cold and flu season merits suspicion. With the worst of the pandemic over for most of the country, CNN has been leading with these dubious origin stories for the last couple days. This morning, they at least gave a longer introduction showing how this story has been pushed from the start by people with really unsavory motivations. As I've stated from early in the pandemic, there is little to suggest that a lab leak was the origin. I think that is the consensus of people who work with these viruses, they just never show up on TV to correct the journalists who no doubt find it easier to believe/ talk about lab leak.

DR. Fauci's words when asked by a Politifact reporter if he was still confident that COVID-19 developed naturally, he said: "No, actually no, I’m not convinced about that."
More of his quote:

"I am not convinced about that, I think we should continue to investigate what went on in China until we continue to find out to the best of our ability what happened,"

"Certainly, the people who investigated it say it likely was the emergence from an animal reservoir that then infected individuals, but it could have been something else, and we need to find that out. So, you know, that's the reason why I said I'm perfectly in favor of any investigation that looks into the origin of the virus,"

Maybe he has seen something that has him pausing at this point?

I don't think that is likely. I also don't think anybody should be 100% convinced on either theory based on the current evidence. To me it sounds like Fauci is summarizing the WHO report findings.

The analogy that I would use is to imagine yourself arriving home and finding your home's front door unlocked. Maybe that is a sign that a burglar is inside (lab leak), or maybe that your partner forgot to lock it on the way out (natural origin). There have been reports of burglaries in your zipcode. So there is circumstantial evidence to suggest a burglary is possible, but it is still likely that the innocent explanation is what occurred. Where we stand now is that we have done a cursory examination of the exterior and found no signs of forced entry or broken glass. That alone can't rule out a burglary, but we as scientists are basically being asked to determine if it is a burglary or not without being allowed to go inside and investigate further. That is why scientists are mostly being cautious with their conclusions. I think the virologist Kristian Andersen from Scripps said it best yesterday on twitter.

Compounding matters, the going lab leak theory basically states that WIV isolated a natural virus from a cave in Yunnan and brought it back and it either escaped by improper disposal of infectious material or infected a lab worker unwittingly during the course of the experimentation. Those are not impossible conditions to be sure, but are also not common occurrences in a lab. Why that matters is that this particular lab leak theory is basically indistinguishable from natural origin and nearly impossible to disprove based on scientific methods alone. I also think that is why the smarter lab leak proponents have settled on this theory because it has little chance of being disproven without a thorough investigation of wild animals to look for an intermediate species. And that seems like a non-starter.

CNN was on day three of lab leak theorizing. They started out good with a report on how sketchy the state department investigation was. It basically was tasked with finding evidence to suit a pre-ordained conclusion. But then they brought on the detestable Josh Rogin, who continued to mislead, suggesting that the outbreak started right next to WIV (it did not). He slammed WHO on their investigation, then he demanded a US only investigation was the only way to 'find the truth'. If you think a US only investigation has a snowball chance in H3ll of being allowed, I got a bridge to sell you all. But that is not the point. The point is to make China refuse any further investigation to make them look like they have something to hide. That is the entire end game for Rogin and company. What the current WH is doing is letting WHO lead on this. If there is ever to be a definitive answer, that is the only way to go about it.

PS. Twitter can be a cesspool, but the discussion between Andersen, Lipsich, Rasmussen, Daszak, Goldstein, and others is so informative and typically not something us normies would ever be privy to. I hope people can appreciate that and also the techniques that went into these papers. WIV was not isolating bat CoVs, they were isolating genomic sequences from lysates of viruses, so really unlikely that there was a lab infection. They did not have a fridge full of viruses. They had a fridge full of genomic fragments of viruses. Good stuff....

Submitted right before the outbreak in late 2019.

Most low intelligence extremists aren't good at analogies. She likely doesn't understand that mask mandates are to protect people while the nazi mandates were to wipe specific people out.

Her basic premise though is selfishness: "my immune system is strong", "I won't get sick", etc. That's great, but as we have discussed here, part of the benefit of a vaccine is making the vaccinated person a dead end for the virus.
