Coronavirus: How dangerous a threat?

UNVACCINATED idiot Pippo Pozzato in hospital with Covid.

Since we're in the cycling forum, I don't think anyone needs a better encouragement to get vaccinated.

Hard to use logic when people have given themselves internet brain worms. Also, nothing says I trust my natural immunity than injecting yourself with every drug available as soon as you test positive. That'll show big pharma.
The media is having a field day with him. I'll spare you the links. Lots of them out there, all over the place.

In discussion on the NFL thread too. I'll be surprised if he ever fully recovers his reputation from this. In a short 48 hours he's gone from being one of the most respected athletes, to appearing like a total anti-vax crackpot conspiracy theorist. Hard to think someone so thoughtful, could be so idiotic and repeatedly say so many absurd, unproven, irrational things. Then again, if history is any lesson he's far from the first, and won't be the last.

In the United States,we have a few TV commercials were the person is shown w devastating effects of Covid, or a pleasant montage of the person before they died of Covid complications..w the overall message..get the vaccine,or don't be dumb like me get the vaccine. Americans have a romantic relationship with sports stars like everyone else..and American cycling fans have a romantic relationship with European cycling..as if everyone in Europe is well versed on races, racing and the racers..Pazzato is not a household name anywhere but his house..I still like his attitude, loved his racing and hope that a few people take his wise words and act.
The numbers for NFL players are different and those athletes have a huge platform..humble pie is in unlimited supply, in an infected athlete, took a slice and shared what happened,we all benefit, like Pozzato's example.. If the Packer did the same, think of the benefit..but instead goes on a self preservation tour about half truth and word salad.
And if you want to see Covids effects..look up in the air..airline worker unions and airlines..in a mess that has thousands of flights cancelled. For me as an American military veteran..I got transfer orders, went to the clinic, they said for this region you need this battery of vaccinations and you got all of them..I went to a U.N. Camp in Sharm el Sheikh Egypt..a bunch of 18 wheel trailers..I told the doctors \ nurses I already had the vaccines for the region..they looked through my medical records, which were a big clump of handwritten notes,papers..after an exhaustive search..@30 seconds they gave me all the required vaccines.
maybe other vets know about holding a freezing cold vile of "the dose"..trying to hand warm it before getting an injection that feels like a painful softball in your rear end..you look back to see how a needle can cause the feeling of a third cheek..I wonder now how many shots I got..?

I ate dinner last week at a Tibetan restaurant. I asked the guy who owned it if he had friends and family in Tibet.

"Tibet, India, Nepal. Yes" he replied.

"Are things better now? Are vaccines widely available?" I asked.

"Yes" he replied. "Both from India, and China. And now the American vaccine." (Pfizer I believed), he said before continuing, "But unlike here, there really aren't any crazy anti-vaccine people. There people just get the shot."

The United States used to be like this too.

Yes, ice in your veins has a whole different meaning to vets! When I was at Ft. Knox they used air guns to blast the juice though our tissue. Our supply SGM flinched one time and it 'ripped' her shoulder (and we were only heading to 29 Palms/Ft. Irwin!).

Since its share veteran's stories time. First Thank you for your service and have a great Veterans Day. Next - Unless you were a grunt then Army, Marine Corps, Navy and Airforce POG's don't really know about real deployment vaccinations. You have to really go to war and stand in a formation to take PEB pills to understand. Or possibly go to Jungle Training School in Pi. to get the full meal deal of vaccines.

I am surprised to read this. You are saying that Americans were once unquestioning of their government? The American constitution has distrust of government sewn into it - the 2nd amendment. I say America has historically placed the rights of the individual as above collectivism. It has always been that way. Of course in China the culture is different. In that country people simply trust the government to look after them.

He does say some absurd things. But he will be fine and he will recover his rep. Its the folks insisting on shaming the non-vaxed that I worry about their mental state. There are legitimate health reasons for some people not to get the vax .
Kids every year avoid vax requirements for 30 days or more in some cases and are allowed into school. Some never get the vaccinations that we all have received and have been existing in society this entire time, those pesky folks who say its against their beliefs.

This is simply a loss of reality..nobody,at least not me is shaming Rodgers for not being vaccinated..this is back to the chicken and egg thing on an endless loop..my problem with the talented, winning, intelligent quarterback is lying,he lied. Other players, family and staff incorporated his data(false) into their decision making process. But this is the foundation of the American response. Go back to day one, based on lying and deception. As was explained by the previous leader ,he originally lied for the public good in his opinion..Said outright false information as to maintain a public calm..that was the basis for his false statements.
The quarterback obviously had lots to gain from lying.
As important as any other point is data, had Rodgers like others made the decision not to talk about everything, always to anyone and everyone things may have had a different outcome. So if you lie via YouTube,Facebook,Instagram,ESPN,local affiliates, podcasts it gives more data to be subjected to analysis.. Had Rodgers said something like" I discuss medical issues with team doctors and my personal physician not a blogger or guy who is also going to ask about play action or number of interceptions I threw " he let the boundaries broaden..just like letting people take pictures of your kids or talk about your family..lots of celebrities and athletes monitize it..because there is an enormous financial upside..
But lying about your Covid, HIV, STD status w others working with you is wrong on every level, that is where the shame comes from..
**and again, over and over and over..there are exceptions built in the law for most vaccinations, the criteria are in a written form and subject to the rule of law..
I don't care if Aaron Rodgers gets a vaccine,I only care if he lies about it..careful,careful I was..all athletes have dozens of options for talking about vasectomy, Viagra, use of marijuana products, hair care,Rogaine,ect..easy ways not to discuss these or any other subjects at a press conference or social or any other media..as we learned from our original Covid captain..best way to avoid lying was not to talk..let me step away from my tablet to do a couple of shots of disinfectant and pop a couple malaria tablets and get my horse meds..

Is there somewhere some study about third shot efficacy? Do you think we will need boosters yearly like flu?. I want to my elderly(60+) parents to give their boosters shots asap but if we will need boosters I will rather wait to next fall for my third shot and "risk" it with two shot regime.

I saw it in this twitter thread:

I don't know your health status and what options you have available, so for you personally my best advice is that you talk with your general practitioner.

In general, I think boosters make a lot of sense for anyone particularly vulnerable, including those who are 60+.

But USA/Americans pulled together at several critical periods in time.

Those numbers are starting to come out (both from pharma and independent). If I had to guess, yearly shots are likely. I got my 1st in Jan and 2nd in Feb so my one year is soon. I'm going to check with my doc to see if I'm eligible, and get the 3rd one before the holidays if I am.

Maybe a month ago I posted a quote from a virologist who stated that many/most initial are a three shot regimen so there's no reason to think that SC2 will be different. He also assumed that it would be a yearly at least for several years, maybe for ever.

In Germany they do now want everyone with high risk to get booster shots, what happens to the others is not clear, yet. But I read that Austria introduces (with a very strict "2G" rule, meaning you can't go to the hairdresser or into a café without being vaccinated or recovered) a rule that your vaccination will only count for 9 months... so before those nine months end, the way I understand it, everyone needs to get their third shot.

I just recently received a third shot (Pfizer-BioNTech, here in US), and since I don’t have access to Ivermectin, hydroxychloroquine, or chloroquine, or other veterinary medications, or fish tank cleaners, and don’t have a syringe to inject bleach into my veins, plus haven’t gotten sick with Covid, I figured this was maybe the best thing for me. A personal choice, you know. :innocent:

I too expect annual booster shots for some time. Because of the large percentage of politically brainwashed, irrational anti-vaccine idiots here in the US, I question if we’ll ever get to herd immunity, or it will take several years for enough people to get sick, repeatedly sick, or sick and die, to do so, making annual shots necessary for rational people who believe in science and facts.

I can even see this ending up being like an annual flu vaccine.

A good question also is, presuming Merck, and Pfizer, have truly developed highly effective anti-viral oral medication for Covid, as well as other companies, will the anti-vax people take the medication, if sick with Covid? If so, why?

I have been getting the flu shot for over twenty years. Not happy that we might now have to get an annual booster shot for CV2. What this also means is this scourge isn’t fading away any time soon. No doubt this has been covered in this thread but just sharing my frustrations which I am sure will be shared by billions.

Plus, I do not consider myself politically brainwashed but I do recognise that state of mind exists on both sides of this debate (pro vs anti vax).

Sure they are. Its hard to read all of your rant but Rodgers will be just fine. You talking about lying to maintain public calm as in when Fauci said his "nobel" lie about masks?

Since you ended on some form of joke I will do the same.
Let me step away from my phone so I can spray down my food with clorox , lysol and put on my 4 masks here inside my home.

Did you spray down your food and any item from outside your house with toxic chemicals before you ate the food or used the items?

Ive had the booster also. I even considered getting the other vaccine. Decided against it. Not once have I considered using any of the items you quote. I usually let my doctor or doctors prescribe what is necessary .

I've read about pharma making combo shots for corona virus so that would be nice to just get one shot each year. Moderna was one of the big pharmas that has a combo shot in the advanced stages of development. I can't remember if this was also the one they were experimenting with a pill form.

Pretty much this. I was vaccinated without any hesitation I told my friends last november already I sure will when it will be my turn. I am not happy to anually shot for SC2 either if it will be reality. I live in low vaccinated country. Summer was good. For me personally one of the best for many years. Winter could be great as well but instead it will be maybe another fu...ng lockdown  It frustrates me a lot. If this will be continue I will be hating winter and christmas soon.

As I work as a vendor in retail/grocery/drug stores I'm in the category that can get the booster now and Moderna (which is what I had) has now been approved for boosters. I'm actually 7 months out from having gotten my 2nd dose. I just need to go talk to something in the pharmacy at the drug store I typically go to to see how I need to schedule my booster shot. I also have to do it on a day (likely a Friday) when I don't have to work the next day OR drive 2 and a half hours that day or the next to go with my husband to one of his Chemo appointments. This is going to fun trying to get that scheduled to fit into my schedule. Also need to find out if I have to schedule it on line or what. The place I got my original shots was doing one day clinics at the time as they were one of the few places where I live that was getting the vaccine, so I can't get the booster there.

I find it interesting that you are so quick to label people scared of C19 for wearing masks but not a word about people like Rodgers being scared to take a vaccine, instead laundering the decision as personal choice.

Agree about this tarnishing a lot of his rep. And he brought it all on himself. He could've left at saying that he worried about allergic reactions and clotting side effects. That it wasn't mandatory and he took the testing route offered. Then this mostly dies down once he throws a TD pass. Even the wackadoodle homeopathy would mostly be laughed off as eccentric. But suggesting that the vaccine doesn't work. That it can make people sterile. And that refusing to follow rules about public health was akin to MLK is what will leave a lasting mark.
