Coronavirus: How dangerous a threat?

I got my Pfizer booster this morning. The questionnaire asked what group I qualified for, but nobody checked. If you are in the US, it is a great time to top up your 5g nanobots for the holidays.

As soon as I can find time when I'm not working the next day just in case I get side effects like I did after dose 2 I'll get it. However, I really want to know when I'm going to develop Magneto's powers from this vaccine.

My neighbor across the street told me this morning that she got her 3rd shot at Walgreens yesterday. It got me thinking, what if someone does have an adverse reaction in a pharmacy? Overall I think that having vaccine available in other places than medical facilities is a great idea for two main reasons: medical facilities can deal with other things, and easier availability/access, plus other reasons. My neighbor is a super fit 75 year old who had no adverse reactions to her first two doses so people like that are safe bets for pharmacies, but maybe other should use medical options? Hopeful they are talking to their personal doc?

My mom went to a vaccination site that was staffed by nurses from her medical group and National Guard nurses for her 3rd shot so at least the people there could respond to an adverse reaction immediately.

Mr. Dozier is a 300(+) lb offensive lineman. If he's had any history of pneumonia, diabetes, etc. he would be a perfect candidate for a more severe response if picked up Delta. Not a complete fail as immunization has never been the shield you might imply. Not much to get excited about here, is there?

All of my family has gotten theirs at pharmacies. Only people I know (in person) to get any vaccine anywhere other than a pharmacy is my neighbors across the street who get their vaccines on base (military), my husband got his booster at the hospital because they did it right before his first chemo and a lady I know who works at a pharmacy because she does have adverse reactions to many vaccines. She had hers at the local hospital for that reason.

Hopefully even the people who don't like your Guardian links still read this because it's written by one of the docs that they have posted as well.

I do think that a certain level of 'move on' can be done if the numbers in an area/region allow it. But people have to be realistic to know that we can only relax while the numbers allow it ( if they go up again we have put our masks back on in public, etc...). I just read an opinion from an epidemiologist who said basically the same thing only with data sprinkled in. Its behind a paywall so I was going to cut and past for ya'll, but when I select the text it goes back to the home page...they're on to me!

I drove my 80yr. old parents to a drive-through vaccination site each time, the first couple of times there were ambulances and firetrucks at the site in case someone had a bad reaction to the vaccine. (We had to wait 15 minutes in the parking lot after vaccination before taking off in case there was an immediate bad reaction.) But with the booster shot there wasn't even one ambulance in sight, they just told us to honk the horn if not feeling well. Not sure how much good that would have done, maybe they thought if you could handle two doses without incident the booster should be no problem? Who knows, but, I'm just glad we got it done without any issues.

That makes sense for 3rd shots, but the pharmacies, at least here, are giving shots 1 & 2 as well.

After I posted about this, a colleague joked that she was going to the Right Aid across from the fire station so that the 1st responders are close. But then she texted that as she was pulling up, the engine was heading out on a call! She got her shot anyway. :)

I'm glad that you and your folks had no issues!

As I was driving away after the 15-minute waiting period I was joking with my folks that it's their last chance for anaphylactic shock - any takers? :tearsofjoy:

I'm assuming that is the kind of immediate adverse reaction they would expect, at any rate - if you go into anaphylactic shock they jab you with an Epi pen and then into the hospital you go?

You're probably correct about the epi, so the pharmacist who stuck you with the SC2 shot can also stick you with an epi shot.

The "Doc;" Eric Topol talks about "accelerate and expand vaccine mandates that unfortunately have become neccessary..." So he favors this tyrannical liberal leadership & the pro-mandate mafia. I say BS & the country needs a dose of Florida's strategy:

"The country needs a dose of Florida Gov. Ron Desantis to battle COVID-19."

"Florida has the lowest COVID-19 case rate in the country. They did without vaccine mandates, without mask mandates in schools and with no restrictions on businesses. Life simply went on."

"It's a lesson that we need to quickly learn. Encouraging vaccination is important, but COVID will be something ultimately we need to handle with less hysteria going forward, and DeSantis has been a model for that."

And before you criticize Florida for it's high death rate don't be oblivious to the fact that people are getting fed-up with tyrannical liberal leadership & moving to Florida in droves.

Not good for NYC - sounds like the "Big Apple" is slowly becoming the "Rotten Apple." Lol.

Thanks, yes I noticed the CN story this morning.

But when I see reports of massive spikes in cases I automatically check what is happening to the hospitalization and death rates. Dutch Covid hospitalizations and deaths have not spiked. There was also a spike in Dutch cases back in July (to over 11,000 per day) but this didn't eventuate in any discernible increase in deaths or hospitalizations.

I see the Netherlands now has an 85% fully vaccinated rate. Might be time to admit vaccination does not stop you catching Covid but it will prevent you getting seriously ill? Isn't that and staying out of hospital and ICUs the important thing?

I thought this was the whole point. Also once we get the pills Merck and Pfizer are working on treat it once you have it with the vaccines, that should keep the vast, vast majority of people out of the hospital let alone from dying. I think once we have those in good supply we should be able to go back to something closer to normal.

Florida had the worst delta wave of any state. 100 people are still dying every day. In their great wisdom, they banned vaccine passports for f** cruise ships. I think we can safely disregard what they are doing, because it hasn't worked.

More from Dr. Topol.

My dad (early 60s) got his third jab today as imunocompromised person (crohn disease). First two doses were AZ in march and early june and now Pfizer because in Slovakia there is no Astra anymore. I hope this "coctail" will secure him calm winter and spring. I hope also I can be with him without doubts as a full vaccinated person because my exposure to virus is more than likely next months.
I take your post to mean you love your dad,he loves you,and his surrounding supporters are unified in..doing what you can about what you can, things that are in your control, Crohns is random from what I have seen,ex boss' daughter got the diagnosis as a send off to college, other ex care workers wife..who was a competitive runner had her life disrupted by Crohns.
it's certain that later some data will be accumulated about who was at risk invisibly for catastrophic Covid.
Each somber story about people dead, few websites and podcasts of stories from first responder and hospital staff..all more heartbreaking than the previous..
There feels like an American ebb from the heavy flow of people buried or seeking treatment. And in many communities there are unanswered questions..if 3\4 of a million people died and I don't know anyone..who were they? If not here, where did they live? Work? Worship, eat?I have no idea what the story will be..but I hope it's not from a zipcode or a specific job or factory..Diabetes looks to be a significant factor, asthma also looking to contribute

Here's the deal: If Dozier was unvaccinated the MSM would have a field day with this and you know it. Instead it's crickets with the MSM - do you think CNN, MSNBC, CNBC, etc, would do a story on this? Lol.

So you have noted a single individual that's been immunized, as far as you know as a complete failure of a pandemic strategy. That seems reactive at best. You've characterized the the effort to encourage immunization as a "mafia" and that the "media" is complicit in suppression of non-agenda information.
Many people have been reported by most "media" outlets as having contracted C19/variants since being immunized including every outlet you've cited. I heard about Mr. Dozier on MSNBC or Fox.com....it's not big news. Probably only interesting because a marquee player like the guy living in a bubble in Wisconsin chose to dodge, duck and dive about his true status and got the ultimate Dodgeball shot to the face.

That you get excited enough to extrapolate that the "media" would have a field day about him is a fantasy along with the "mafia" reference. LOL...does that mean Live Only Lies?
But the good news is you got a thumbs up from another huffer of the gas...

Why do you want to make personal attacks? It diminishes the content of your post.
