Yes, ok, but winter sports doesn‘t just happen once every four years, Vonn is a legend because of her many, many world cup wins, not because she‘s underperformed at the Olympics.
It helps that she's an American though. It just does. Lots of athletes perform everywhere but not at the Olympics, that's not a phenomenon that's restricted to her. She's just more marketable... partly because of her nationality.

I’ll

Johnson’s climb to the top of the speed events is indeed a great story to follow. And I was already put off by Vonn’s comeback because she came back wearing even more makeup than before ;)
Makeup aside she has a "team" that preps that, too. Conceding that much energy to a marketing ploy has to be taxing. Realistically all of the athletes market at some level as Alpine racing, top level figure skating...etc. are grossly expensive pursuits. Hopefully Shiffrin resists the immediacy that the marketers will hurl at her, now with their promotional vehicle up on blocks for this Olympic cycle.

She's a more accessible platform for US mass market. Shiffrin is a jock, first. Goggia is fun loving and real while Lara Gut comes off as prickly even to many Swiss. Skiing is exciting to watch but it is a fairly inaccessible pastime for most of the World. Maybe that's why my heart lies smaller town and genuine versions. I don't wear Rolexes or much makeup either so I'm not a good marketing metric.

Vonn is not even a very successful Olympian. From all the publicity and hype you'd think she was among the ranks of Ole Einar Bjørndalen or Ireen Wüst, but she's won one gold medal in her whole career. One! Now, that's nothing to be sniffed at, but something tells me that if she were Swiss or Finnish there wouldn't be half the hype. Anglophone media is way too dominant, in cycling, in football, and apparently also in winter sports.
It's where the money comes from. The US President has never kicked a soccer ball and he's attempting to dictate the entire World Cup. He has a reason, I'm sure like any other entity associating with sports they know nothing about. Hopefully that Beautiful Game doesn't get ruined by US attention. The NFL is forcing itself anywhere they can to compete.

In my book it's not just the overrepresentation of their media, economic influence and spin that's the issue - it's the attitudes they bring with them. Vonn encapsulates the most stereotypical slide into pathological individualism cranked up to narcissism levels.

I saw Vonn's wall of text on her Instagram last night where she claims "she dared to dream" and it read like Dwayne Johnson attempting to spin a movie flop into a highly curated personal voyage of discovery. I mean girl, you're 41, you have multiple prior injuries, a recent torn anterior cruciate ligament and you faceplanted embarrassingly after 13 seconds when you really had no business being out there to begin with.

This is not commendable behavior. She could have seriously hurt herself. And for what? Money? More fame? Gross. And the people saying "you're a loser who doesn't understand the spirit of a champion" I'll answer this: Vonn isn't a champion - not anymore. She's just old and broken.

FIFA don't need Trump. It's another example of one of these huge organisations that for no apparent reason just caved to him. No apparent reason except corruption. Gianni Infantino finds in Donald Trump a kindred spirit.

The NFL can throw all the money at it they want, but American football will never compete with soccer... outside of the US that is. Any regular match between Manchester City and Liverpool has a bigger international viewership than the Super Bowl. The World Cup is just in whole different league, we're talking billions of viewers rather than millions. In soccer, a performance by Bad Bunny would be an unwelcome distraction rather than the centerpiece of the evening.

Jacquelin's earring has not helped him so far, but then I doubt Pantani would have been a reliable shooter either.

Ponsiluoma and Samuelsson both being clean after two shootings is a surprise. Giacomel and QFM's bad runs on the range continues.

In alpine skiing the women's team combined just finished with Austria with the gold, Germany silver, and US team 2 with the bronze. Johnson and Shiffrin (US team 1 ) surprisingly only came in 4th, so not another medal for Breezy from this event because Shiffrin was not on her A-game in her slalom part.

Botn really deserves this gold after what he went through during the Christmas period. He dedicated this win to Sivert Bakken.

Too bad that Hiidensalo didn't manage the podium, great performance.

One surprise medalist will always be great, but Lægreid also deserves a bit of good fortune after a tough season as the defending World Cup champion. He still has a chance of winning the mass start on his 29th birthday.

Hm, from fresh-faced gal who probably drinks lots of milk to The Real Housewives of Aspen or whatever...

Maybe not fair, but I'm stating the obvious that attractive athletes (especially women) stand to make more money through sponsorships or whatnot than average looking athletes, but at least Vonn had the talent and the victories to go along with being attractive. Attractive if you're into that Real Housewives look, I mean.

Next time I'm cleaning the house I'll have to have someone yell and direct my mopping technique like they do in curling...

Currently there's a tense, mixed doubles bronze medal game between Italy and GB in the only event that matters in the Olympics - curling. :D

More like Mar-a-Lago look

This is completely false. The Americans went into full *** mode after the Qataris outcorrupted them in 2015 to get the 2022 World Cup. They started arresting FIFA executives on BS charges and investigating all kinds of crap. Infantino kissed Trump's ass so that the Americans would end their investigations, which Trump did a few days after receiving the "Peace Prize."

Yes, U.S. media has always played up her looks. The ironic part, which probably most European fans knew and Americans didn’t, was that when Vonn was the best downhiller and overall cup winner, a number of her closest competitors were model-level stunning: Tina Maze, Anna Veith (Fenniger), Lara Gut, and others. I can’t comment further on comparisons without being too sexist.

We're allowed to express personal preference, though, right?

True, but they never sought attention like Vonn has, and continues to do.

Actually politicians love sports as a campaign vehicle. Infantino may have issues but I have little history on that sport. It's the exposure for free the Pols want.
