In spite of today's incident, I had to ask you folks about it, in a fair & constructive (hopefully) view. Was he up to the task of beating Contador & Froome?

Please Opine

If not for the crash today, but still with the ITT crash, no.

Without both crashes, maybe, but not the most likely result.

If Bernard Hinault came out of retirement could he have won La Vuelta since Quintana crashed?

Quite honest, I don't care either. despite the great disappointment, what took place today is already in the past- but since this year everyone here on CN is so interested in the 'WHAT IF" nonsense, I simply wanted to indulge them with more of it ;)

I'll give you better answer after the finish in 2 weeks.

Even after that it is an unknown what type of form was Quintana going to have for the last 2 weeks.

So the most probable answer would be that there was a possibility that Quintana probably was going to engage in a probable battle against other riders with uncertain form just like Quintana.

Depends on Alberto 3rd week form.We will see.If he will blow his rivals than No,if not, probably Yes.

I still think without crashes Quintana woulda fly in 3rd,and no this is not hyping  I really really think so.

Without either crash he could have beaten Froome, not Contador IMO. With only the first maybe he could have beaten Froome with some strong rides. But it's dependent on how bad his injuries from that crash were (which we don't really know).

BTW fixed the wording of the title for you. ;)

No, there are few riders ahead of him already, and he won't be improving. Your comment was extemporaneous.

I don't see how. The OP asked if he was up to the task of beating Contador and Froome. Without any crashes I think he would have beaten Froome but not Contador.

No it wasn't, the OP, if I read him correctly was asking an opinion before NQ's crashes. I voted yes.

Well, he would've won the whole thing, beating both.

I like YES. Reminded me to change my avatar. Thank you. 15 days to go. Not for this forum though:)

Of course he could. It is definitely within the realms of possibility. It wasn't very likely though.

Quintana would have had an extremely hard time beating AC. Really we will have to wait and see if AC continues his strong showing and wins, but I think Quintana would only have been able to place 2nd.

Meant to say that the only scenario in which Quintana beats Contador in this Vuelta is if the latter crashes. If both are able to stay on the bike, Alberto wns by a mile.
