Fair enough, I have not seen Philander bowl so have to rely on the figures. I find it hard to believe any bowler with his kind of figures is not worth a try but maybe he is not in the top 3 and has been chosen because he can bat not because they believe he is a better bowler than Tsotsobe

What's happening. Just as I slag off Philander he gets a wicket. How desperately do Australia need Katich to open.
I'm not saying he's bad, I personally thought that Tsotsobe's better but that's subjective. Not a bad start for the Saffers. He may get into most test teams but the Saffers have got a good frontline seam attack.

Edit: tuning in to TMS (test match sofa) as the stream was s**te. Lots of swear words so not suitable for a public place.
BS, rain. Just got a golden quote in TMS- 11 overs 23 runs, this is Test Match cricket- no sixes. It's like England in the middle stages of an ODI.
Covers off, wahey.

Am relying on the Cricinfo text for updates as to what is going on but (unsurprising given that it was raining before the game) greentop = Steyn, Philander, and Morkel having an absolute field day. I love test cricket when it's like this!

Clarke said he would have batted if he had won the toss?

Huss gone with one of Morkel's few full balls but Clarke in fine form. Australia in a bit of bother 5/158.

Edit:
Haddin gone, Australia in proper trouble again.
Johnson out. Clarke in fine form, fantastic 100.

How's Hazlewood going? He had a serious injury last year and I haven't seen him yet.

Two wickets in each innings on a road at Bankstown Oval in Sydney v SA ... good effort all things considered.

How about Michael Clarke's innings? I seem to recall being the sole voice earlier in this thread defending him as a class player?? A DVD of that innings should be sent to the academy on how to play on a difficult wicket. Some of his cover driving was textbook... showed them the "makers name" as we were taught as kids. Not bad for a Fancy Dan

Aussies could easily have been 5 for not many early on, seamed all day, but will likely flatten out as the test goes on and the weather improves. Steyn and Morkel showed why they are two of the best in the game at present, but I reckon they would have fancied getting the Aussies out for a hundred less than what they are at present. If theres still some life in the pitch early, Aussies might be best to lose these two wickets early and get a crack at the Saffers while there's still some seam?

More will be revealed after both teams have batted on this wicket.

North Sydney Oval easily... Hodge and Smith were miss-hitting 6's over cover! White lanes painted down the middle. Bowlers regularly twinge a hammy in the lead up to games played there :D

I expected more from Tahir yesterday and Kallis' new mop has just lost him all his bowling powers. It's a South African pitch, there's always something for the bowlers. Johnson will be on fire today (now I expect him to throw **** on my face with a spell of 0/90 in 18 overs).

On a side note- Australia's creams are way better than other teams' whites.

Agree with Spider, I think North Sydney could easily be a substitute for the autobahn. Hodge had to play himself in a bit due to some early swing and early trouble but Dan Smith was playing baseball.

An actual judge is hearing the Simon Katich's disciplinary hearing. What's happening?

Namibia have beaten Kenya in 5 consecutive 2020's, 3 more to go. Not good news, an 8-0 whitewash would be mental. Crazy series, 8 2020s

Lol poor captaincy by Graeme Smith, no 2nd slip and Michael Clarke edges a ball where 2nd slip would have been.

Easily Clarke's best innings.

Australia will do ok if they get to 300. Still behind I think but not out of the game.

What a session. Stunning, Philander in followed by the tail.

Boucher gone pending review. He should be out. Out, Watto five for.
