We just witnessed the begin of Phil Bauhaus' unstoppable domination of World Tour sprints.
The goth sprinter.
I always thought that Walscheid would be the next big German sprinter.

Walscheid seems to struggle in bigger races. Needs some more time probably.

Bauhaus has obviously made a big step today, but there's also Pascal Ackermann with a very good neo pro season. Not to forget Rick Zabel. In the U23 ranks Max Kanter is looking quite promising. As always, no lack of sprinting talent in Germany.

Yes, it's the one thing that they always produce, sprinters and TT specialists, but they've got a huge problem when it comes th the shrinking talent pool, only 500 junior riders, male and female, in Germany, that's nothing!
Walscheid will probably always struggle in a gt because of his weight, but the guy already had world class numbers in actual races when he was still racing in the U23 ranks, so it's a bit of a surprise.
Maybe he'll ride the Vuelta with a small train, that would be a good first gt for him.

For 1.99m, 88kg (I believe that's his weight), isn't less than you would expect
Kittel must be about 86/87kg and he's 188cm

He's 89-90kg, but wanting to ride a gt is probably the one thing that stops him from putting one even more muscle mass.
His numbers are crazy:
in 2014 before turning pro at the german U23 NC, a +189km race, 1328W for 25sec and a peak power of 1708W a few weeks after turning 21 years old, he won the race ahead of his teammate Bauhaus. Bauhaus had a bigger sprint train, Walscheid went for a brutal, long sprint without a train.

Good for SunWeb to continue their excellent results. It's not just Dumoulin but the others are getting in on the action as well. I am sure the whole team has been pumped up by Dumoulin's Giro win and hopefully they'll continue their escapades.

It's a good descent from Mont du Chat. Technical at the beginning and end, with regular middle. Not sure about the road surface... possibly patchy.
But they'll have to get to the top first.
Should be a good test.

A climb followed by a descent, looks an ideal stage for complete GC riders who can climb. Froome is my pick

Chapeau Bauhaus! Came the long way around - says how messed up the sprint trains are.

15 km from summit to finish, last 2 km flat ... time for some "Dawg Descending" (TM)? :D
I'd expect some yo-yoing but it's one long grind for all - nearly 9 km at min 7.5 % Unless someone blows up, I'd not expect big time gaps.

So Chad Haga had some help from Dimension Data when he needed a new bike while still in the neutral zone. He did get his own bike right before kilometer zero.

What are the rules? Is that allowed. Using another team's bikes?

1 squished Ewan needing to be scraped off the tarmac and the usual flow of compliments and felicitations from the Chav.
