Fair play to froome, when he realised he'd boxed in porte he lifted and gave space to keep everything safe. Don't think that would occur during the tour
Porte could have taken an alternative route though. Froome didn't change his line, so he was actually in the right to stay where he was.

He obviously didn't see the overhead shot. Froome moved hard right and Porte had to stop pedaling. Definitely cost Porte the stage. Froome's tactics were clear, put Richie over the mountainside or over the fence. Some pretty reckless riding.

Froome screwed Richie there. He would have won. What was Valverde doing going that early? He totally screwed himself.

He was either overconfident or he's testing himself. Should've wait and follow moves from Porte and Froome, then go hard near the top and on the descent and he would've probably won the stage. Bad tactics, really.

Overconfident seems the more likely to me. Still. As you say, could have won that stage for sure. I'm sure he'll be kicking himself.

Ok - so at least one other person saw what I saw. He moved waaaaaay right and basically put Richie in the barriers.

Looked pretty clear from the overhead shot.

I did see this clearly as well and Porte lost the stage because of it.

Froome goes a little bit mental at times...nearly knocked Porte off on the downhill as well

Not intentional just going for it big time in an awkward clumsy way as he prone to do

Aru looked very good...very exuberant ...seems being off so long has helped his form no end ....

Porte was the smart ride of the day. Let the early attacks go as the climb was going to get harder later and they went much too early and once he had Aru in site he had it under control. Porte also showed good sense not trying to stay with Froome on the descent. Froome sat on his back wheel for the entire climb and seemed to be struggling a bit. Not sure what Valverde and Bardet were doing and Contador just didn't have it on the day. Aru also looked good.

Yes Porte and BMC rode the whole stage very well....did not panic when Vavelde went...set a tempo and brought him back slowly
Then Porte did not go charging after Aru and the others ...just set a good pace
And on the downhill Porte kept his distance, descended to his ability and could have won the stage...Smart riding
Need to keep it up as Froome is in the ascendency now

Oh he tried, but.. :p It was not a good sense, it was luck. Without Fuglsang, Froome would've won this stage with at least 10-15sec advantage

Decent stage today and Aru looked good. Froome was just marking his competitors and for me he is now big favourite for the tour. He dominates/almost bullies Porte and Richie knows his place when it comes to their friendship. Sucked Portes wheel up the latter part of the climb and almost put him into the barriers today and I seem to remember him doing the same at last years Dauphine.

Credit to Froome it was a very good descent but you would wonder at the logic of risking so much for gaining a potential few seconds in what is effectively a warm up race for the tour for him. But then logic never comes into it with Froome.

Aw well, we got our hopes up for 2 days that it might have been a wide open tour this year but I think we will be seeing the sky train grind everyone else into submission going up mountains, riding tempo for 4,000km for 2-3 weeks again.

You could see that Froome was very annoyed that Fulgsang was riding on his wheel with about 1km to go (he looked straight into his face). Fulgsang then went and got a 50 metre gap and the logic would have been for the GC men to let him go. However Froome didn't want to see Fulgsang win the stage and again illogically he chased him down.

Uh, I think he wanted to win himself.

The only thing that Froome is better than Richie at (right now) is descending. Porte blew him away in the TT and was pulling him up at the top today. There is time of course for the form to flip/flop, but Richie looks great to me.
I don't see Froome winning the tour easily as it stands. Next couple of stages will probably tell us more too.
