Earlier the commentator on the feed I was watching (McCrossan) was reminiscing about the 2018 stage of the Tour de l'Avenir which also finished here, back then Mader won ahead of Sosa, Vingegaard was 111th at 11 mins down. Man has come a long way.
I think he returned from injury then. It was his first race after Valle d'Aosta (where he won the uphill prologue and then crashed out on the next stage).

The only challenge for Vingegaard is his weak team. But none of the other teams seem to care to sacrifice any of his riders. Like if someone attacks from far away he will probably has to follow himself. But there is a probability that something like in Itzulia will be repeated. Having said that He would be alone for a long time. So it is worth to at least try to see if he takes the bait. He is the strongest, yes, but doesn't have a team.
