I never got the thing that they signed Consonni as his leadout man, even if they are track buddies. Sure, he's a TP guy, so have him do his longer pull earlier. Milan needs a taller guy (to get a decent draft) with big watts to keep the speed high.

Stewart didn't go particularly early. Milan has a problem of not reacting very well when things aren't perfectly to a script he understands – sort of the opposite to Kooij/Merlier, who are both instinctive sprinters. Feels like he was set on doing a specific leadout strategy, but it was a tailwind with 4 men in a single kilometre (probably too many, if anything).

Well that's the point. Milan waited way too long. It's not even that Stewart did something special, he went under 200m to go...

Stewart was by far the fastest.

Maybe, maybe not. He has made this mistake before while being fresh so I wouldn't just say that. Just a rookie mistake like a lot of other sprinters have made before, even the best.

No I agree, I was just explaining why I think it happened. Just not an instinctive sprinter like Merlier/Kooij, or Cavendish et al before him.

Kind of an early Froome if he were a sprinter. Set plan or else

He kicked in much too low a gear, so irrespective of when he went he would have not caught up without upshifting, which would have cost him the sprint anyhow.

Honestly, any top Sprinter with a Walscheid leadout would be scary. Guy has a absurd raw power.

Congrats to Stewart for winning the sprint.

Remco hitting the floor and on top of that Vervaeke breaking collarbone, that is not all that optimal at all, for SOQ and remainder of the race. Tejada, Ackermanna ... abandoning due to crashes. Unfortunately such things are bound to happen and not much has been done in the past to prevent and reduce it. For cycling to become more of a winning by best sport performance kind of a sport then being an elimination game. Hopefully in the future more emphasis will be put on this, for indeed be able to more frequently gather all the best cyclists and their teams to compete in such events. Similar to lets say tennis, or mostly any other sport out there.

It doesn't obviously always work, but Trek has been racing intelligent all year, shouldering majority responsibility for bringing back the break, and as a separate event, had excellent leadout train setup, just designated rider didn't execute, but 8 or 9 of the 10 steps lets say were accomplished.
Some upsides, Remco looked ok after he beefed it, MVP was up there, Visma is staying consistent. Fred Wright moved up a couple of spots so he can screenshot his excellent placing before mountains. Lipowitz is solid, @ it looked like during bike banging celebration ceremony that it was a Bora rider that almost took out the winner as he rode Tesla autopilot no hands style, close call.. Few too many crashes..

Most of the sprinters looked undergeared today compared to Jake Stewart. Perhaps Israel was the only team accounting for the tailwind?
Generally speaking, Milan has a higher cadence compared to other top sprinters but yeah today it was a big mistake.

I wonder why, since he was so publicly showing his appreciation for it crossing the line.

But his "odd" celebration was all about the bike, the Danish Europsport commentary mentioned it as a prototype being ridden for the first time in a race several times during the stage.

I'm an american (sorry) but never liked Armstrong at all; when Mayo wiped the floor with him at the Dauphine TT I have to say I was pretty pumped about it! Then deflated in July...

Don't be sorry, so am I. I was a Armstrong fan until he turned into the Terminator. But I adored Mayo and anytime he won a race I was Very Happy.
